The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

Some people seem to think he's the endorsed republican candidate. Wonder where that came from.

Anyway, this is Jim's site so, he should let us know if we are allowed to post Rudy threads and comment on them, because I can see the bullies intent on insulting Rudy supporters every time we express our opinion. No one should be bullied by a barrage of name calling and insults.

Jim Robinson WAS here earlier, calling out/debating with a couple Rudy supporters and I didn't see him write once that Rudy supporters shouldn't/can't post threads/comments on FR, or that they would not be allowed to anymore in the future. IIRC, he was also asked that question directly more than once, and didn't bother to spell it out because well, if the Rudy supporters weren't allowed to post threads/comments supporting Rudy - he would have SAID that, wouldn't he? I'm no mind reader, just trying to apply common sense.

I wish we would have a strong, credible conservative candidate throw his hat in the ring... it would make my life and the lives of everyone so much easier, and we would be united in fighting the liberals instead of fighting each other. However, as good as the candidates are, none of the them are as attractive to the electorate as much as Rudy, imperfections and all.

Your first sentence is faulty and doesn't jibe with your second. We do have strong credible conservatives who have thrown their hat in the ring. They all vary in HOW conservative they are from issue to issue, but they are all much more conservative than Rudy. Rudy, who by even what I have been able to gather from his supporters' comments on the Rudy threads here on FR, is considered conservative on the War on Terror and National Security only. But those of us who would prefer a more conservative candidate for the Republican party are accused of being "one trick ponies", etc for having other issues of import such as abortion, the 2nd amendment, the homosexual agenda, etc.

As far as how attractive they are to the electorate, we are still a ways out from decision time, so it seems a bit premature to be throwing the other conservative candidates under the bus already before we even know IF the rest of America will back them.

I don't like to be called “abortionist, gun-grabbing” – nothing could be further from the truth, and if they now think they have a license to break FR rules, then we need to know that as well.

Eh, it didn't bother me too terribly to see those of us on the 'other side' compared to the KKK. Sticks and stones, and if it resorts to THAT, well - you move on to the next comment.

Those kind of comments have bought others one-way tickets out of FReeperville.

It's easy to cheat...it's easy to lie.

Will you back the Republican nominee? I didn't think so.

Sorry I didn't remember to thank you for the appreciation of my service AND I should have shown my appreciation (I DO appreciate it) for a father's past service and a son's current service (sincerely), but it seems apparent, that you are not listening much to what myself, and other conservatives are trying to tell you about rudy's blatantly LIBERAL views, so I didn't imagine you would care that I thanked you anyway.

You can call me a liar if you'd like. I don't much care if you THINK I was an active-duty Marine for 13 years or not. I'll never forget it. Semper Fi.

And what makes you think Rudy would stop you from doing this great work?

Where did you get the idea that I think Rudy Giuliani or anyone else would stop me from praying for and working to defend the rights of the unborn?

To: Jim Robinson; All

"The president appoints the judges who make such rulings."

Rudy believes in strict construction and appointing strict constructionist judges. Any judge who claims that Roe v. Wade is supported by the Constitution and worthy of being followed is not a strict constructionist. Rudy's personal views on abortion don't fit into this.
