The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

Should this thread be about the pros and cons of Rudy or should it be about whether Freepers can support a candidate who is part of the Republican party?

This is not a republican forum, it is a conservative forum. Rino Rudy is not a conservative.

I won't waste my time trying to refute every little petulent comment made by people who are hopelessly unable to see the big picture.

The "big picture" being that we have to shut up and allow someone who represents the polar opposite of traditional Republican Party principles to be our standard bearer in 2008... Not going to happen.

Why else would you have posted it. Of course that's your intention, so as to provide further support of Rudy's credibility as a presidential candidate. It's no lie. Sorry, but you are wrong again.

To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, this would be a first, where Freepers are not allowed to support a Republican.

I cannot think of anytime it has happened. You are even allowed to support 3rd parties on here since it is not a Republican site.

I am waiting for the answer is well. Then we can each make a decision on where we go from here.

As I said in my previous post--one trick ponies are just that--they have one thing that they know and usually know it well. They can be trotted out on the appropriate occasion and be depended on to perform well.

There are those of us who do see beyond the one tick ponies and recognize the need for safety and security of our citizens, the protection against enemies foreign and domestic and defending our Constitution. These are primary concerns for me. I will leave it to others to argue the more social aspects of life. The question of whether a woman has an abortion is between her, her husband/partner, her religious belief and her physician. Since the right to an abortion is currently allowed, I will defend this right and will not have the temerity to fly in the face of the Constitution.

should it be about whether Freepers can support a candidate who is part of the Republican party?

And should it be about party loyality in support of a guy who endorsed a Dem for NY governor in 1994? Is party loyalty just a one-way street?

BTW Off Topic .. Russ Fiengold this morning said he's going to introduce legistlation tomorrow to cut off funding in Iraq within 6 months of the passing into law his Bill

Well, that's what the Republicans (and now the nation) gets for betraying their base. So, let's just repeat the same thing in 2008 and run a candidate whose views are the opposite of the Republican Base. Good idea.

If Rudy wins, I strongly believe he will split the party.

It looks like it's split already. Rudy is the front running candidate of the Republican party like it or not.

At this rate I'm wonder if any Republican can win. We can't get together behind one person ... even the Dims have rallied around Hillary even when they don't particularly like her. It does not bode well for us.

You see here is the clincher! They are not Republicans they are Conservatives! At least that is what they say.

I'll put my Republican credentials up against yours ANY day. First, lets see if you're an actual member of the Republican Party or not. Your turn.

Right, its my assertion. But it goes well beyond a simple matter of words and you know it. The truth speaks for itself. A good conservative knows all about the historic truth of the Reagan family. Nancy Reagan raised Patty and Ron jr. We know how they've turned out. Liberal. Maureen and Michael were more in touch with their fathers politics. Nuff said.

As I said in my previous post--one trick ponies are just that--they have one thing that they know and usually know it well. They can be trotted out on the appropriate occasion and be depended on to perform well.

So now you're calling opposition to a million dead children a year a one-trick-pony.

There are those of us who do see beyond the one tick ponies and recognize the need for safety and security of our citizens,

Unless they happen to be fetuses, and then they are one-trick-pony bait.

the protection against enemies foreign and domestic and defending our Constitution. These are primary concerns for me. I will leave it to others to argue the more social aspects of life. The question of whether a woman has an abortion is between her, her husband/partner, her religious belief and her physician.

You left out the fetus. I guess the fetus being a human life carries no weight in your moral calculus.

Since the right to an abortion is currently allowed, I will defend this right and will not have the temerity to fly in the face of the Constitution.

OH MY GOD. YOU JUST CALLED ABORTION A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.

The people who knew Reagan best and are in charge of his legacy determined that Reagan liked Rudy Giuliani and respected him enough to give him the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award.

I know you don't like it, but you'll have to live with it.

The National Abortion Rights Action League had Rudy address their "Champions of Choice" luncheon in 2001.

I know you don't like it, but you'll have to live with it.

You don't get to say who is a Republican. The Republican party has endorsed Rudy and he has repeatedly run as a Republican.

He MAY win the REPUBLICAN primary. He MAY be the next Republican president.

He may not be your choice.

My first goal during the primary season is to get Duncan Hunter nominated as the republican candidate for president.

If that fails and the republicans nominate someone else, then I will vote for them. They might not be my first choice, my second choice, or even my fifth choice, but I do choose them over Hillary or Obama or one of the other nightmares.

I do not have a problem with your fears about a Rudy run for president. I respect it and hope to see it on threads. I have not known you to be nasty while expressing your opinion.

If we could bring back the civility, then these threads would be alot less about defending ourselves and debating the issues. Then maybe we can change minds and influence people once more. What a welcome change.

Whoop-dee-do! So he had a title. That still doesn't make him the right person.

We need a leader who'll speak up and be a great CIC and win the war, who has the guts to take the witch down and fight to close the borders. Rudy fits that bill. Hunter is a one issue candidate who very few have heard of.

BTW: If you decide to respond to this post, please try and do it in a civil way without the name calling.

This is not a republican forum, it is a conservative forum.

Well then - I guess that means that at least 80% of the people who post here consider themselves Republicans should be off this forum then.
