Update 2: Pennsylvania Police: Amish School is 'Horrendous Crime Scene' After Shooting
NICKEL MINES, Pa. At least two female students and one slightly older female who may have been a teacher's aide were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.
"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.
Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims some critically wounded were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.
Presser - prior purchase of materials on two occasions, preparation, and methodical actions show a lot of pre-planning. Having a change of clothes and a bucket show planning for a long siege. Perp apparently carried out his plans very methodically and had a script in his brain for what he was going to do, and carried out that script until the police arrived, when he apparently panicked and that's when the shooting started.
Hmph. This thread just got booted out of Breaking News into the Smoky Backroom.
He didn't speak for long. Nothing really political in what he did. He did order flags in the state to fly at half mast until the funerals.
Thank you for the pings.
Ping for your information
Wow. It's looking now like the perp intended to sexually assault the little girls before killing them and himself. The arrival of the police changed the script.
PA State Police Col. handling the media very well. Col. stating the PSP did everything right given the situation. Mentioning how the one nine year old girl escaped with her brother and the other boys.
I was wondering the same thing...this shouldn't be back here.
This is getting sicker by the moment
I imagine the mods finally got sick of cleaning this thread up to make it suitable for the News forum.
Male reporter asking PSP Col. 'what should parents tell their children about what happened' (not really a question for the person in charge of an active investigation) but Col. gave an excellent answer (paraphrasing) 'school is a safe place...this was problem originating in the killer's mind.'
I don't know if it is possible, but I wonder if there are similar behaviors and red flags these sicko's begin to display before. No one seems to see it coming.

"LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - Lancaster state police are seeking a motorist who allegedly tried to lure a 14-year-old Drumore Township girl into his pickup truck several times on Sunday and finally chased the girl into a field.
The incidents happened between 8:30 a.m. and about 7 p.m. along Susquehannock Drive, near Susquehannock State Park, Trooper John T. Lyons said.
The first incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. as the victim was walking to church with another family member. The man pulled his pickup truck up beside the girl and made some comments to try to get the girl into his truck, Lyons said.
During the day, the man drove by the girl several more times and made similar unsuccessful attempts to get her into his vehicle, Lyons said.
The last time, the man became more aggressive in his advancements toward the girl and she ran into a nearby field to escape. The man got out of his truck and began searching for the girl with his dog, described as a black Labrador Retriever, police said.
The man fled the scene after he did not find the girl. He was described as a thin white male, but police have no information as to his age or clothing description.
His vehicle was described as a late-1970s or early-1980s Ford F-150 pickup truck that was faded navy blue with white or grayish primer paint around the wheel wells, police said.
The man is being sought on charges of criminal attempt to lure a child into a motor vehicle. Anyone with information about the man or his vehicle is asked to contact Lancaster state police at ...."
Haven't heard a description of the killer's pickup truck. He may also have had access to another dairy farm vehicle. But it could account for a strangely dark mood if he was fearful of getting caught and increasingly unable to control evil urges.
Thanks...
Prayers that God sends special grace to you and all the other health care professionals who are tenderly caring for these little ones and their families.
Maybe it's time to stop blaming the police and be grateful that he didn't have the time to do what it sounds like he had planned for them. They would've died anyway but what a horrible thing to have happen at the hands of an immoral piece of human debris as that.
They suffered enough, I'm sure. I'm grateful it wasn't more.

Shooting victims' conditions updated
Two things - Susquehannock is a fair distance away from Bart Township - and the pickup for this creep was pretty old and faded navy blue. The images I saw of Carpenter's truck was a fairly late-model truck that was more steel-blue.
From the photos, the killer is a thin, white man. Lets hope the 14 year old can remember details. It could help peice this all together for the Police.
