Presser - prior purchase of materials on two occasions, preparation, and methodical actions show a lot of pre-planning. Having a change of clothes and a bucket show planning for a long siege. Perp apparently carried out his plans very methodically and had a script in his brain for what he was going to do, and carried out that script until the police arrived, when he apparently panicked and that's when the shooting started.

He didn't speak for long. Nothing really political in what he did. He did order flags in the state to fly at half mast until the funerals.

Wow. It's looking now like the perp intended to sexually assault the little girls before killing them and himself. The arrival of the police changed the script.

PA State Police Col. handling the media very well. Col. stating the PSP did everything right given the situation. Mentioning how the one nine year old girl escaped with her brother and the other boys.

I imagine the mods finally got sick of cleaning this thread up to make it suitable for the News forum.

Male reporter asking PSP Col. 'what should parents tell their children about what happened' (not really a question for the person in charge of an active investigation) but Col. gave an excellent answer (paraphrasing) 'school is a safe place...this was problem originating in the killer's mind.'

I don't know if it is possible, but I wonder if there are similar behaviors and red flags these sicko's begin to display before. No one seems to see it coming.

Man tries to lure girl into vehicle
Driver of pickup made several attempts Sunday in Drumore Township, near Susquehannock State Park, state police say.
By John M. Hoober, Lancaster New Era
Published: Sep 04, 2006 10:07 AM EST
"LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - Lancaster state police are seeking a motorist who allegedly tried to lure a 14-year-old Drumore Township girl into his pickup truck several times on Sunday and finally chased the girl into a field.
The incidents happened between 8:30 a.m. and about 7 p.m. along Susquehannock Drive, near Susquehannock State Park, Trooper John T. Lyons said.
The first incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. as the victim was walking to church with another family member. The man pulled his pickup truck up beside the girl and made some comments to try to get the girl into his truck, Lyons said.
During the day, the man drove by the girl several more times and made similar unsuccessful attempts to get her into his vehicle, Lyons said.
The last time, the man became more aggressive in his advancements toward the girl and she ran into a nearby field to escape. The man got out of his truck and began searching for the girl with his dog, described as a black Labrador Retriever, police said.
The man fled the scene after he did not find the girl. He was described as a thin white male, but police have no information as to his age or clothing description.
His vehicle was described as a late-1970s or early-1980s Ford F-150 pickup truck that was faded navy blue with white or grayish primer paint around the wheel wells, police said.
The man is being sought on charges of criminal attempt to lure a child into a motor vehicle. Anyone with information about the man or his vehicle is asked to contact Lancaster state police at ...."
Haven't heard a description of the killer's pickup truck. He may also have had access to another dairy farm vehicle. But it could account for a strangely dark mood if he was fearful of getting caught and increasingly unable to control evil urges.

That list is just sick. No, evil beyond human comprehension.
Maybe it's time to stop blaming the police and be grateful that he didn't have the time to do what it sounds like he had planned for them. They would've died anyway but what a horrible thing to have happen at the hands of an immoral piece of human debris as that.
They suffered enough, I'm sure. I'm grateful it wasn't more.

Shooting victims' conditions updated
Hershey, Pa. -- A 6-year-old girl who was severely injured in a school shooting in Lancaster County Monday remains in critical condition at Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey.
A second girl, age 13, remains in serious condition following several hours of surgery yesterday afternoon. She was able to communicate non-verbally with her family last evening. A 7-year-old girl died early this morning just after being taken off life support at 4:30 a.m. Her family was at her bedside.
The Children's Hospital is providing private space for the families of these children and has offered to provide other services as needed, such as transportation. However, the families have made only two specific requests: for privacy and prayer. They continue to ask for the community at large to keep families and victims of this tragedy in their thoughts and prayers, and for the media and community to respect their privacy related to the care of the children.
Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry has put together a response team to meet with children, adolescents and adults associated with yesterday's events. Staff with extensive experience in the areas of anxiety, stress and trauma are available to provide both acute interventions and longer term follow-up to anyone needing additional treatment. These services are available to families of victims as well as to those who observed the events an! d to those who responded to the scene.
For information or to schedule an appointment, contact Beth Swartz, at (717) 531-8516.
Shortly after noon yesterday (Oct. 2), Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center received the initial call that several pediatric trauma patients from a school shooting in Lancaster County were on their way to the Medical Center to receive treatment for gunshot wounds.
According to Matt Wain, Penn State Children's Hospital administrator, Penn State Hershey Medical Center's Life Lion air medical helicopter touched down at the scene to begin transporting patients within 15 minutes of the initial call.
"The Medical Center activated its external disaster plan, Level Yellow," Wain said. "Six trauma teams, including neurosurgery, pediatric surgery and pediatric intensive care, were placed on standby to prepare to care for the inbound patients."

Two things - Susquehannock is a fair distance away from Bart Township - and the pickup for this creep was pretty old and faded navy blue. The images I saw of Carpenter's truck was a fairly late-model truck that was more steel-blue.

From the photos, the killer is a thin, white man. Lets hope the 14 year old can remember details. It could help peice this all together for the Police.
