Update 2: Pennsylvania Police: Amish School is 'Horrendous Crime Scene' After Shooting
NICKEL MINES, Pa. At least two female students and one slightly older female who may have been a teacher's aide were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.
"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.
Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims some critically wounded were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.

I know that. There is another Paradise Twp west of York and Lancaster, here in York Cty. I thought that was the one they were referring to, instead of over in Lancaster Cty.
I certainly will let you and others know. A gentleman that I work with lives a mile from the school where this happened, and knows many of the families. I will be keeping in touch with him, and he will probably have the most accurate info.
Thanks casino. I post from them all the time, and now need to be more careful not to quote directly from them, as they are Gannett owned.
Very eloquently stated Miztiki, your post really hits to the heart of why this incident is so horrific.
I'm a little bit surprised it hasn't already begun. If the RATS were in decisive control, the confiscations would have already started. But give the antis a teeeeny bit of credit for remembering recent history and the overwhelming reaction to Katrina and the actions taken by local government in response to "events of random violence." Nagin's (well okay it was his Chief of Police) actions resulted in backlash legislation that swept the nation.
THIS is the power of a resurgent NRA! If you'll remember back to the horror days of Bill Clinton, the result of the Oklahoma BOMBING resulted in RATS crys for more gun control legislation. But for the RATS it's always a matter of timing...not decision.
She was 7 years old.
A spokeswoman from the hospital said a 6 year old is still in critical but a 13 year old is now upgraded to serious
Paraphrasing from the attached article - Roberts worked the night shift prior to this shooting, and made his milk truck runs. He ended his shift at 3 a.m. Mon. morning. He took his children to the bus stop at 8:45 and returned to his house.
Roberts was a lifelong area resident and it is known that he probably had contact with some of his victims families through his job collecting raw milk from farms.
Psychologists have speculated that Robert's acted deliberately by going to the school to get even with the community by targeting their most vulnerable targets, their children.
Fox news has reported that there is now a fifth death, occurred around 4:30 am when she was taken off of life support.
There was good news reported that one of the older girls treated, 14 year old, has been upgraded to serious condition and was non verbally responsive.

Praying for strength for the Amish community.
Very, very sad DC.
Prayers up for the health and recovery of the remaining girls.
God Bless them and watch over them, their families and the neighbors in Pennsylvania.
I feel the same way.
I had been reading up on the Amish lately, and was planning to drive up to Lancaster County for a visit. Now is clearly not the time, though.
It should be noted that the little girl who died this morning had her family with her when she was taken off life support.
" ... Fourth Child Dies After Amish School Shooting
(AP) NICKEL MINES, Pa. A fourth child died Tuesday of wounds from the shootings at an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County.
The 7-year-old girl died about 4:30 a.m. at Penn State Childrens Hospital in Hershey, hospital spokeswoman Amy Buehler Stranges said.
Her parents were with her, Buehler Stranges said. She was taken off life support and she passed away shortly after. ..."
>>>>I hope and pray that the electrical devices in the hospital are not something they objected to. God bless the people of Nickel Mines and surrounding communities, as well as the innocents in the gunman's family.
The families were in my morning prayers..May God comfort those who mourn.
