Free Republic Poll on Evolution
Free Republic ^ | 22 September 2006 | Vanity

Posted on 09/22/2006 2:09:33 PM PDT by PatrickHenry

Free Republic is currently running a poll on this subject:

Do you think creationism or intelligent design should be taught in science classes in secondary public schools as a competing scientific theory to evolution?
You can find the poll at the bottom of your "self search" page, also titled "My Comments," where you go to look for posts you've received.

I don't know what effect -- if any -- the poll will have on the future of this website's science threads. But it's certainly worth while to know the general attitude of the people who frequent this website.

Science isn't a democracy, and the value of scientific theories isn't something that's voted upon. The outcome of this poll won't have any scientific importance. But the poll is important because this is a political website. How we decide to educate our children is a very important issue. It's also important whether the political parties decide to take a position on this. (I don't think they should, but it may be happening anyway.)

If you have an opinion on this subject, go ahead and vote.

"God's creation is a trap or a trick"

Perhaps this statement is demonstrating that you still missed the meaning of the metaphor. I will go back to school [ this was a thread about what is taught is school, is it not? :) ] and insert the correct meaning of the metaphor into a sentence.

As the evolutionist views God's creation through the glasses of materialist presuppositions, the evolutionist runs into intellectual problems to which the evolutionist has no answer, unless it is the answer the evolutionist does not want to accept--one which would force the evolutionist to change his presuppositions.

Hint: There is a new metaphor inserted to make it a little more challenging.

Whats up with this Martian City?...I have heard the whacky idea about the face on Mars, but for whatever reason, I have not heard the one about the Martian City....get me up to date here...

Search for 'cydonia' on google.

Kooks like medved believe that the face on mars is just part of a whole pyramid complex, not unlike the pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Ted's website discusses this:

The science pages of our journals are filled by descriptions of NASA projects to search for microbes on Mars while studiously ignoring major evidence that they have found a city there, as if germs were important, and cities were not.

It's an old idea out of a comic book, updated for the faked-moon-landing crowd.

Glad to see that you are on the thread today, so that you could read for yourself the rest of the thread and see for yourself, that I was certainly not making any exaggerations as you accused me of...certainly reading the posts following our exchange will clear your head of that notion...

I dont exaggerate and I dont make things up...

What I said about Editor-Surveyors past posts regarding medicine, was true as evidenced by him coming onto the thread and confirming this...for which I am grateful...

He has his own views regarding medicine and I have another...and that is what the discussion was about...for you to try to make the leap that I would suggest that someone who may not agree with me concerning evolution, has to agree with Editor-surveyors views about medicine, is at best an argument without merit, because it has no basis...and its also an exaggeration on your part.., ...

I have not done what you accused me of...rather you have done what you accused me of...you are the one making the exageration...

Maybe the experiment wasn't scientific.....reading my high school or college biology textbook I would have never guessed that the fruit flies wouldn't eventually change into other distinguishable flies, then house flies, then ants, bees, frogs, and birds, and polar bears and people, just give it enough time and enough fruit fly population changes.....or maybe the parts of the my biology textbooks aren't very scientific they are actually religious in nature complete with missing link myths and prebiotic soup fairy tales.

A fine example of a self-serving statement, since ony you know what you mean by "materialist presuppositions."

Refine your statement a bit. Define precisely what the "evolutionist" (or biologist) is looking at, and what "materialist presupposition" he/she is employing in his/her observation.

"materialist presuppositions"

Perhaps Carl Sagan stated it best: "Matter is all there is"

"Define precisely what the "evolutionist" (or biologist) is looking at"

Already stated in earlier post....non-life does not become life.

All right, let's see if I have this correct --

Your statement (inserting your recent definitions) --

As the evolutionist views ["non-life not becoming life"] through the glasses of ["matter is all there is"], the evolutionist runs into intellectual problems to which the evolutionist has no answer, unless it is the answer the evolutionist does not want to accept--one which would force the evolutionist to change his presupposition that "matter is all there is."

Forgive me, but this is gibberish. Are you trying to make some kind of point here? Or is this just some kind of hopelessly muddled attempt to escape your earlier statements about God setting a trap for man?

I will choose to believe that you are indeed intelligent, and can understand it--even if it is verbose and not an ideal sentence. I believe you also knew the meaning of the metaphor 'trap' in the original less verbose sentences the first time you read it.

I think there is an issue here which is much more important then 7th grade english class....

Perhaps calling it a "kind of hopelessly muddled attempt" is an attempt to shelter yourself from the reality of the world in which you live in, one in which you observe non-life never makes life.

Perhaps you are ignoring or defecting the intellectual problem or 'trap' because you don't want to get stuck.

Fruit flies breed new generations every day or so and they kept that thing up for two or three decades, i.e. for more generations of fruit flies than there have ever been of humans or anything remotely close to humans on the planet. All they ever got were fruit flies.

Really? I would have never guessed that would be the outcome of the experiment after reading my (religious) evolutionary biology textbook.

Do you agree with medved/tomzz/Ted Holden that a supernova within our solar system caused Noah's flood?

No.

Do you agree that Nasa is engaged in a conspiracy to hide the truth about a martian city and the Face on Mars?

No.

My post is in regard to evolution.

In many ways, Ted Holden is a net legend. Are you really him?

Not that he will ever respond. Nor will SirLinksALot confirm or deny being Bill Dembski.

Hooray. Thank you. Be aware that there are some stealth kooks out here that want to smear science. There are people on this thread who believe that medicine doesn't cure disease, that we never landed on the moon, that there are cities on mars, that oil doesn't come from fossil microbes. They are taking advantage of people's respect of the Bible to spread their quackery.

Pardon me but, I didn't realize that you were continuing an argument from past threads. Maybe you should stick to the subject at hand. I have been reading posts on this thread from some pro-evo's that have made such statements in regards to science instead of medicine.
