Maybe he's fallen off the wagon more than just this weekend. Here's his promo for the movie he's making now:

Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.
The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".
I think the booze has pickled his brain.
Mel is good buddies with Michael Moore. His production company was to produce Pahrenheit 9/11, but back out at the last minute giving no explanation.
"In March 2004 he expressed doubts over the Iraq war, in particular the failure to find weapons of mass destruction, although he maintained that President George W. Bush had "done a lot of good" elsewhere. At the People's Choice Awards ceremony in January 2005, Gibson again condemned the Iraq war and praised the liberal director Michael Moore and his documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11"
I would have liked "I am deeply ashamed that I am not a Kennedy otherwise I would have never been arrested" instead.
This is actually quite a sincere and proper apology, IMHO.
Gibson should have told the Cops that he was just trying to get to the capitol to cast his vote.
Thank goodness he's a drunk and not a doper. /s
This is going to be unfortunate because many Jews, or at least many of their vocal leaders, thought The Passion of the Christ was anti-Jewish. The movie's use of actors with hook noses to play some Jews and its focus on Jewish blame for crucifying Christ were cited as indications that this was the case. This will confirm in the minds of many that these allegations were true.
Substance addiction will make a person do exactly the opposite of what he wants to do. It will make a person of sexual integrity engage in promiscuity. It will make a peace-loving person brawl. It is a spiritual bondage. Jesus said all those who engage in sin are enslaved to sin.
We need to remember that Jesus calls each of us exactly where we are, warts and all. "Just as I am", we sing. If we sincerely repent of our sins and trust Him for salvation then we are indeed saved, even if our degree of sanctification needs working out.
I'm not trying to make excuses. What Gibson did was very bad. And especially because he is in a position of influence the repercussions are going to be all the worse. We can debate how right it is for our culture to place such high esteem on its entertainers, but the reality is that we do. In Gibson's case, at least, he earned it by going against the tide. But with position and power comes responsibility. That's the way the Kingdom - which we are now already in - works.
On the good side, Gibson has already publicly apologized and indicated that he will seek help. The Bible says that a righteous man will fall seven times, but he will get back up. It also teaches that the world will make the most of each stumble to try to belittle the Message, to prevent others from being saved.
The tendency is to think that if you blow it you no longer have hope. That's not the case with Christianity. We have many examples, including David and the First of the Apostles, Peter, whose failures and restoration are recorded for our edification, so that we wouldn't despair when we fall short. Thank God for His mercy!
So we need to pray for Mel, and also use this opportunity. May God use this not only to heal Mel, but to bring better relations between Jews and Christians and a better understanding of what Christianity really is to the world.
Be well,
p.
BS, Mel. One doesn't just say things like "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" without believing it. Gibson's no less deranged than Bobby Fischer.
...and he needs to spend some time in the slam for drunk driving.
I love Mel but he acts crazy maybe you can strike the acts, and replace it with is.
Puh-leeze. This is a textbook case of in vino veritas.
Not everything a person says while drunk is what they truly believe. I've seen two types of drunks - the "good ole boys" and those who get angry. The ones who get angry while drunk do and say things they would never do while sober because the alcohol disrupts their brain chemistry. Later, when they find out what they did and said, they are generally horified.
What I feel the worst about is not what Mel Gibson did or said while under the influence of a powerful drug - alcohol. What I feel the worst about is that this man is so very addicted he can't quit, even though he seems to want to. It's like the person with lung cancer who can't stop smoking even though they know it's killing them. In Mr. Gibson's case, he can't stop drinking. A near death experience might be the only thing to pull him away from the bottle, sad to say.
Not that Mel has an excuse, but this is one incident that is far more harmless than we've seen from the likes of others. My point is simply that you can't tell the character of a man by one action- He has shown better judgement over many years (as far as we know) than this one night of stupidity.
