The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
He didn't call someone a KIKE, he implied Jews are responsible for the what's going on in the world. He's an international celebrity. There are so many people just itching to kill Jews...itching. Every day I become more fearful for my life. You think that's a joke? I was flying an Israeli flag on my patio. Somebody called me a name....I took it down in fear for my family. Did you have famiy members marched into a gas chamber? I did. Until you're in our shoes, you have no right to tell me to "chill out."
Your argument would have been much more persuasive if you'd used the actual word: "censored".
So, which is true? That he believes Jews died in concentration camps, or that his dad, who denied the Holocaust ever happened, never told a lie?
I wonder how many of Gibson's defenders here never turn down the chance to lampoon Teddy the Swimmer?
Yes you do! I see that everything is ok if you despise Jews. If he'd have attacked the pope I'll bet they wouldn't be trusting and excusing ole Mel.
Didn't his Dad make similar statements in a TV interview a few years ago?
ARGH! Forgot to follow up that sentence! I'm trying to cook dinner at the same time... My sincere apologies! I had a whole diatribe in mind to follow that comment!
What I meant to type was "So what if he is an anti-semite? Why should we be suprised? He's an ACTOR. His job is to supress his own id and pretend to believably be someone else. We should be shocked that he's successfully hidden that fact? He's an artist (of a sort), and artists are known for the quality of their product. Most of them can get away with being total scumbags in their personal life.
Anyhow, I am SO sorry that I spaced out on making my point, and probably pissed everyone off. Not my intention.
"Guess he's human after all."
Yes, humans aren't complete without a little jew hatred. /sarc
I'm a recovering alcoholic and I was just saying the same thing to my husband.
It sounds like Gibson has a demon to conquer. It also sounds like he is blaming no one but himself. That seems like the rsponsible thing to do. Since I have watched alcoholism consume people near and dear to me, I hope Gibson can conquer it.
We all crucified Christ by being sinners.
oops, sorry, that was the "universal you" not YOU.
I agree with you. (the individual you)
Ughhh...yeah...which ancient tome did you find that nonsense. It's not in the Bible.
Oh wait...I know...it's here:
Of course, nothing that Mel has done is excusable. He deserves his punishment, and the excoriation of the public for his antisemetism. He's going to get to it not just in court, but in the court of public opinion, where the money comes from to see his films.
My point is that I've made a mess of my life, too, and at a time when most men are supposed to know better. I paid a very heavy price for my stupidity and bad behavior. Mel is going to pay, too. I just hope that he reforms. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. It's up to Mel now. As a result, I pity him more than anything else - which is actually one of the most insulting things you can say about another person.
geezzzzzzzz he was what, .12 BAL in a state that .08 is drunk. It wasnt like he was blowing .99.
Why dont one day we do a BAL test in the Senate and House and see who gets to type their name in the High Score line on the Machine.
Interesting take. Well now I know who you are and what you think and I'll remember to stay away from you. However, you will find alot of other Jew Haters to chat with.
Well, blah blah blah to you, too. Go ahead and get worked up about what every stupid actor says. You'll spend the whole day, every day in a state.
What I'm hearing in these Gibson DUI threads is a definite delight. I hear whole rooms full of people smacking their lips over this tidbit...
So "The Passion" really WAS antisemitic, after all!!
The uproar around that movie taught me quite a few things about what was really going on in a lot of people's minds. Now, I guess they're here to say, "I told you so."
