Just a few pages and it was easy to see what it really is. Hard to believe people fall for it. I'm afraid unless Katie's parents accept the scientology "stuff" there's going to be a huge rift between them and their daughter. Unless she opens her eyes. He wouldn't even let her parents see their grandchild unless he was there. Not a good sign.
But no other work was needed on Kevin. His great response to Moe when he made the final 12, "I wasn't expecting much from you anyway", is totally becaue Kevin is a New Yorker, and knows how to face down a sarcastic Brit.
Love it!
I know what you mean. Some don't even waant to give him a chance. I guess they think this country is run by 12 year olds.
I wonder how many times "Do I Make You Proud" will be played at high school and college graduations in the near future? The song's not great but it's growing on me.
Exactly. The brainwashing and mega control has already started. Her folks need to have a serious talk with her. There will be a rift but TC will be causing it. I'm not sure her folks are going to give in so easy. No good is going to come from that relationship, sadly.
Probably not at all because it is a poorly written song.
Maybe they can make a "DIMYP"/"Unwritten" medley that will be required for every graduation in the country this year. Hey, it's better than that Vitamin C "Graduation" song. I graduated high school in 1999, so guess what our song was? I'm so sad Prince didn't perform that this week.
No, the song isn't great. It's god-awful. I have no excuse for liking it as much as I do.
For what it's worth, I think the ONLY thing that got her so far is her looks. There are plenty of people around with voices fine voices, but whose looks are a barrier to them making it in show biz. In fact, that's exactly why Taylor didn't make it earlier even though pros in the business recognized his vocal talent.
Here's an excerpt from an article on Hits Daily Double (have to register there to read it). It's by Don VanCleave of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores. He talks about how he knew -- and rejected -- Taylor, and the reasons why:
AN AMERICAN IDOL UNSUNG IN HIS HOMETOWN
Taylor Hicks Labored on the Birmingham Scene for 10 Long Years Before Anyone Noticed
May 25, 2006About this time last year, Taylor Hicks sent us his new CD. "Please check it out dude." OK man. After a listen or two, it went in the big "I listened to it and I promise I did not throw it away, but it is gonna just sit there" stack. It was a decent enough effort, but we get tons of those. >b>How was I supposed to help a thick-looking dude with white hair?
In June, we have City Stages in Birmingham. It is our local festival. Reg and I have been very involved since day one. Taylor and his band were to appear on the "Locals Only" stage. He called multiple times to see if we had listened to the CD. I was busy and avoided most of the calls. When I did talk to him, he lobbied me to come see his set at the festival. So, I dropped by and caught a few songs. I thought the guy had a really good voice, but I could barely watch his stage antics. Man, that dude is afflicted with something. You know, whatever that muscular thing is that possesses Joe Cocker.
Later that day, I ran into Taylor and he asked if I saw the set. I was polite, but got out of there quick. Not long after, Taylor just showed up at the office. We like to hide and don't want local musicians just dropping by. We are total snobs about that. We would never get any work done otherwise. Taylor goes running from office to office asking Reg, Jill and finally me what I thought about him and how could we help him get hooked up. Andrea, my assistant at the time, got up from her perch, took Taylor by the arm and said, "Dude, you need to leave" and that was the last I heard from him. We spent the rest of the day talking about aggressive this guy could be. NO was not an answer ever.
A few months later, Reg came storming into my office and spewed, "Check this sh#t out. Taylor Hicks is in a serious run in the American Idol prelims." Wow, that is crazy!
This guy is 29 years old and does not look like an artist that would ever get a record deal. I know dozens of A&R guys. NONE of them would have given Taylor Hicks the time of day a year ago. He is neither young enough nor skinny enough. He has grey hair and is about as goofy as it gets on stage. Normally he would be a total non-starter in this business.
Being one of those people who would not really give this guy any serious time, I wish him only the best in the final round. I hope he gets everything coming to him. He has been slogging it out in bad bars around here for 10 years and never gave up. If he wins, I hope he is very successful.
If Katharine, whose main assest is the accident of good genes, goes are around whining and trashing Taylor, I hope it hurts her budding career. Taylor has paid his dues and then some, and he won AI by a big margin. It's nice to see the public choose real over plastic for a change.
Sad thing about that letter, you almost expect to see 'And we could have been a part of his success', but nope, they didn't get him then and they don't get him now.
What's taking so long with that first album! LOL :)
One of the best things about AI is that many music industry execs are being shown for the dunces they really are. They shoved rap at us, and all the pop-tarts like Britney Spears, and boy band scrounges like Justin Timberlake. But thank goodness there are still a lot of people around who appreciate real music.
Great article! Sounds like Simon Cowell speaking. It seems like Simon tried to sabotage Taylor Hicks throughout the entire competition. Finally, at the end , when it was obvious he was the top contender, he "changed his mind" about Taylor.
Why is he choosing music for the American public?
He also told Chris Daughtry that he had no star potential and tried to stop him from going to Hollywood.
I've wondered that for a long time now.
"With permission to be bitchy... More fun with Kat"
May I play too? The next morning Kat was on Ryan Seacrest's radio program. He asked her if she was interested in anyone romantically...She said yes Ryan I like you. He ignored her and asked her if there were any of the Idol men she was interested in..pperhaps Elliott. She shrieked like she had been scalded..No ! Next he asked her about the possibility of being attracted to Taylor. Once again she groaned and said No way. What a conceited little witch. She should be so lucky to be in the same league as either of those two gentlemen.
I bet this jerk is kicking himself from here to kingdom come. How many Taylor Hicks are out there? It's a shame that talent is the last thing that is considered now.
I read that the homecoming response blew TPTB away at how Taylor was received like a major rock star. The preorder sales of DIMYP rose from 3016 to 2 in less than 48 hours at amazon and is I think around number 5 at B&N.
So Elliott has really no chance of ever making something and having it sell, because by all accounts he spurns the committment to such marketing giants.
Another ADD light of brilliance is slowly dimmed to dark by lack of focus. How sad.
I am glad Taylor was able to put his talent to good use and will make a career from it. I suspect we will never really hear much from Elliott, so I am glad to have the music I do!
The rumor is Tom Cruise wants Katherine to sing at his wedding to Katie Holmes....
Nice article. Thanks for posting that. And I agree about Katharine. She's causing me to lose any good will I may of had for her with her constant blathering.
