Bush will win on Immigration to save the Republican Party.

Posted on 03/27/2006 9:53:41 AM PST by Pukin Dog

Just a little dose of reality for some of you going nuts over the Immigration issue, because there is NO chance that you will win on the border enforcement issue. No chance whatsoever. Only after a migrant worker program passes, making most of these illegal aliens legal, is there any chance at all to have meaningful border enforcement.

Bush is not running for office anymore, but the Republican Congress is in need of a big victory in November. This issue will kill our chances to maintain the majority, and knowing that, Bush will likely veto any bill making illegal immigration a felony, if that bill does not include the migrant worker program (call it amnesty if you want) needed to hold onto Business and Hispanic support for the Republican Party.

The Illegal Immigration Genie is out of the bottle, folks. You can’t stuff her back in without losing the House and/or Senate in November. Pragmatic minds will rule in the end, and that is a bitter pill you best swallow now.

FReepers can’t will elections for the Republican Party, but we sure can go a long way towards losing them, if we can’t put our common sense ahead of our passions on this issue. I live in San Diego County, and I see the problems with illegal immigration on a daily basis.

Whether you like it or not, much of the commerce of this country does depend on these folks to do jobs that Americans won’t do for the prevailing wage.

So, you have a choice, you can demand the border enforcement bills on their own, or you can swallow hard and consider everything you will lose if we turn off 10-15% of the electorate, in addition to the business community that depends on these workers. Yeah, they broke the law, and so do the people who hire them.

So what?

Yeah, I said it, SO WHAT? The time to be worried about that was when there were REAL Republican majorities in the Border States. It is too late now. This is a problem that cannot be solved, but only managed.

It is possible to be right and stupid at the same time. Pete Wilson tried this a few years ago, got all kinds of support for it. It passed, and Pete Wilson is gone. Then a judge overturned it anyway. That is exactly what you can expect to happen with these current bills as well. Some judge will put an injunction on enforcement, but by the time that happens, we will be knee-deep into impeachment proceeding under a Democrat Congress.

Bush won’t let that happen, neither will smarter members of the Senate and House. You won’t win, you can’t win, but you can shoot yourself and the Republican party in the head (even if you are not a member) by pursuing a program that does not include amnesty or whatever you want to call it.

We lost this one.

Get over it. There are bigger battles ahead.

I think you're right in arguing that we should prevent illegals from giving birth in the USA; however, if a child is born here, I would argue that he deserves the chance to stay.

Why? Why not just say, if you are a citizen, your children are citizens? If not, they aren't. It's easy.

What about the physical location of the birth of someone whose parent got into the country illegally makes them "deserve" to be a citizen?

I don't believe in automatic citizenship for illegals OR dual citizenship, because there is no logic to it.

During the Rodney King/LA Riots, 3/4 of the people arrested in my sector for looting etc. were illegals.

Just stealing the TVs Americans won't!

Wwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! What about the children!!!???? Booohooo....

The children will be taken back to Mexico with their invader parents. The children should have never earned U.S. Citizenship because their parents are both illegal. The Constitution should be changed to effect that, but until then we'll have to feel bad - a little - but still send the children home with their invader parents.

Please stop helping President Bush in his attempt to appease the millions of invaders already within our borders. The "but what about the chiiiillllldren...." argument is trite and well into the territory of liberal thought.

What's ridiculous is to suggest that the unwed fathers be deported while our taxes go to support anchor babies' moms on welfare and food stamps. And while they continue to spit out more little anchor babies. Notice I said 'unwed' fathers. They don't marry the women they shack up with.

We accomplish nothing if we are out of power, particularly when it comes to the federal judiciary.

Shout it from the rooftops!

We may as well be out of power NOW.

The GOP did not come up with the Contract with America until it was shut out of Congress and the White House. I'm not saying we should have to go that far, but I think it would do the GOP bigs a world of good to have to work for our vote again instead of assume we'll just vote for them because we don't have any other choice.

If you think that's bad listen to this. There are women who at between 7 and 9 months pregant fly over here on two month visas from the middle east. A lot of this has been happening in the detroit area.

They come to "visit family", lo and behold they wind up giving birth to, you guessed it, a future jihadist with American citizenship.

If you didn't think the present was scary enough the future holds much worse.

Puke, it's amazing how wrong you can be.

Being wrong on occasion is a propensity that all humans share. Wrong or right, its a great discussion, eh?

Do you want to be right, or do you want to win?

I want to see justice done and laws enforced. If we cave now, we'll cave again in another few years with another amnesty under another RINO. The cycle won't be broken unless we take a hard stance at some point.

The Pubs all too often "play us", thinking there are no other options. If one doesn't make a strong stand somewhere, even if it is the bitter pill that means we lose congress, then nothing will ever change and in fact we will only be pushed farther and farther from our core values.

The pro-amnesty/guest worker RINOs love power, and conservatives love America.

I hope Conservatives love America enough to keep the power that lets them prevent Democrats from ruining America.

That's what they're counting on. I've read stories where illegal alien women, 8-9 months pregnant, make their way here to have their baby just so they can use that clause. Time to dump it. No anchor babies.

Read stories? Heck, I live near the border and I've talked to several OB nurses as well as midwives who see this kind of thing EVERY DAY. No one is going to make me feel bad for that child if he/she gets sent back to Mexico where he/she should have been born in the first place. If daddy or mommy steals merchandise for their child's use, no logical person would propose letting the child keep that stolen merchandise just because it would be so darned mean to take it away, punish the thieving parent, and make the parents have to actually purchase such merchandise in the future. The same thing applies to ill-gotten citizenship.

Andy Card said years that ago that we "have nowhere else to go". That's a pant-load right there.

And there isn't much that can be done about that without a Constitutional Amendment to get rid of the anchor baby clause.

So, the obvious answer for any self-respecting Republican President is to appease the potentially violent invaders at the expense of the sovereign citizens of the country that elected you to office. Right?

Actually, the obvious answer is that they already own most of "Atzlan". The question is now, what are we going to do?

Reading some of the replies you've received bears out my recent observation that many who call themselves conservatives think with their gut, not their brains as God intended.

Cant say it better than that.

It is an emotional issue for some, when it should be an economic, security and common sense issue.

That is what this thread is all about.

If we didn't love America, we'd lie down and let the Compassionate Globalist Conservative poke us again.

I'm sure you're right. But don't come on here after 3 weeks and call people "white flag Freepers." If you want to make a thoughtful comment, make one. But I don't think any Freeper ever waves a white flag.
