Just a little dose of reality for some of you going nuts over the Immigration issue, because there is NO chance that you will win on the border enforcement issue. No chance whatsoever. Only after a migrant worker program passes, making most of these illegal aliens legal, is there any chance at all to have meaningful border enforcement.
Bush is not running for office anymore, but the Republican Congress is in need of a big victory in November. This issue will kill our chances to maintain the majority, and knowing that, Bush will likely veto any bill making illegal immigration a felony, if that bill does not include the migrant worker program (call it amnesty if you want) needed to hold onto Business and Hispanic support for the Republican Party.
The Illegal Immigration Genie is out of the bottle, folks. You cant stuff her back in without losing the House and/or Senate in November. Pragmatic minds will rule in the end, and that is a bitter pill you best swallow now.
FReepers cant will elections for the Republican Party, but we sure can go a long way towards losing them, if we cant put our common sense ahead of our passions on this issue. I live in San Diego County, and I see the problems with illegal immigration on a daily basis.
Whether you like it or not, much of the commerce of this country does depend on these folks to do jobs that Americans wont do for the prevailing wage.
So, you have a choice, you can demand the border enforcement bills on their own, or you can swallow hard and consider everything you will lose if we turn off 10-15% of the electorate, in addition to the business community that depends on these workers. Yeah, they broke the law, and so do the people who hire them.
So what?
Yeah, I said it, SO WHAT? The time to be worried about that was when there were REAL Republican majorities in the Border States. It is too late now. This is a problem that cannot be solved, but only managed.
It is possible to be right and stupid at the same time. Pete Wilson tried this a few years ago, got all kinds of support for it. It passed, and Pete Wilson is gone. Then a judge overturned it anyway. That is exactly what you can expect to happen with these current bills as well. Some judge will put an injunction on enforcement, but by the time that happens, we will be knee-deep into impeachment proceeding under a Democrat Congress.
Bush wont let that happen, neither will smarter members of the Senate and House. You wont win, you cant win, but you can shoot yourself and the Republican party in the head (even if you are not a member) by pursuing a program that does not include amnesty or whatever you want to call it.
We lost this one.
Get over it. There are bigger battles ahead.
God bless America!
The devil also wants your soul. Are you selling that also?
There is nothing else to talk about in Congress until our borders are effectively secure.
Period.
Well, since you HAD to ask...the answer is no.
I just happen to understand the consequences of minimum wage laws and other gross business regulation and the havoc these cause.
Do we reward the children of criminals? I think not.
Nice attempt at the nazi reference but it won't fly.
The child won't be faulted for anything, it will still be a legal citizen of the parents country.
The U.S. is one of the few in the world that creates an anchor baby simply by location of birth. It's an error that needs to be fixed.

I will not support ANY candidate or Party that doesn't solve this problem.
Since I have lots of peso notes from my trips to Mexico, I think I will send them as payment of my Fed income taxes on April 15 in lieu of US dollars. If they won't protect us against invasion I see no reason to pay them in hard earned dollars.
When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you.
Do you embrace or reject capitalism and the free market?
Neither.
Do you embrace or reject government intervention in private dealings?
Neither.
Anyone who does not have a position on freedom or socialism/fascism has nothing important to add on any issue of concern to real Americans. You on on the wrong site. (probably on purpose)
If Bush's plan goes through it will alienate 70% of the American public, including the ones with the highest level of voter participation. Bush and the RNC Rockefeller elites have turned against their base, and the overwhelming majority of American citizens on this issue.
The current illegal immigration situation poses the biggest danger to our sovereignty and way of life that this nation has faced since the American Civil War, and Bush is on the wrong side.
"Another White Flag FReeper."
Big talk coming from a guy who's been around here for less than a month.
Actually, no.
I just want folks to consider the consequences. If they think that the losses incurred by an all-out fight to take back the country are justified, so be it.
I just wanted to inject that little bit in there. If war is what we want, well, let's do it and get it over with.
Going into a battle in which the LOSS OF YOUR LIFE is a possibility needs careful consideration.
The Treasury Department's IRS Gestapo, that fraudulent band of thieves that come to kill, steal and destroy, have no compunction whatsoever in prosecuting Americans that don't participate in their fraud. Screw'em.
I don't agree. SS holds our economy back and is social engineering.
Look at France. Its economy is down the tubes because of SS and other sick legislation enacted under the artiface of "benevolence". Same goes for mimumum wage laws which have caused the current immigration brouhaha.
Anyway, SS and its evils are a topic for another thread.
