ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

I don't have a side in this...at all...

I see this primarily as a mistake from an economic outsourcing perspective...and it gives the democrats a stick to beat the administration with this November...an imbecilic move politically...and if Bush vetoes any legislation, he will only isolate himself from his own party, and enrage true conservatives as to his previous unwillingness to use his veto powers for the conservative agenda.......

As far as the public and media are concerned...the vast majority of sentiment is against it...and they don't even consider for a moment they are profiling...

That was my point...the reason we have an uproar is because the company is Arabic in nature...

Consider that for a moment...

That is a good thing...because to me at least...the PC bull-crap pendulum might finally be swinging back to the sensible center...

The Oklahoma City Bomber Timothy McVeigh was born and raised in New York, USA. Remember him? The one who said the children killed were just collateral damage? UAE does not corner the market on terrorists, do they?

Once again, brilliant reasoning comes through. There are just as many terrorist bombers born and raised in the United States as there are in Middle Eastern nations. Thank you for mentioning Timothy McVeigh. I am sure there are literally thousands of American-born terrorist bombers that you could have named, but you just happened to mention Tim McVeigh. Clearly it isn't that he was the only example of an American terrorist you could think of to bolster your weak point.

I'm sorry. With you, it's religious bigotry, not racial. I forgot.

Well when a religion has virtually declared war on your county it's kind of hard not to see the handwriting on the wall.

Nationality??? We are talking a religion, and No i do not blame the Jews for Christ's death. Nice job of avoiding all of those MANY Jihads. Well since you wont respond to Historic evidence what about Koran text...

8:15 O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them. When you fight with disbelievers, do not retreat. Those who do will go to hell. 8:16 Whoso on that day turneth his back to them, unless maneuvering for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's end.

8:39 And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.

8:55 Lo! the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the ungrateful who will not believe. The worst beasts in Allah's sight are the disbelievers. 8:56 Those of them with whom thou madest a treaty, and then at every opportunity they break their treaty, and they keep not duty (to Allah).

and that was in ONE PAGE. I suppose you consider Heavens Gate Legit huh?

No.

Why should understanding that Muslims would be offended be a problem? Being a Christian, and knowing that Islam is a false religion doesn't change the fact that the cartoons were offensive to Muslims.

The second half of the statement verifies, however, that Jeff completely misprepresented the State Department comments.

Blood and treasure, EV. We have spent blood and treasure to vigorously defend the right to print offensive cartoons.

THAT was the official position of the Bush administration, and to say otherwise is a lie.

Being mad at the President doesn't excuse fundamental dishonesty............does it??

I wonder why W is going so far out on a limb on this one?

Possibly he is doing it to garner support from the Gulf states should he decide the US must use force against Iran.

The diplomatic front against Iran's nuclear production is heating up. One of the last hopes is that Iran might accept a compromise with Russian uranium enrichment.

That may explain Ws silence on the issue of Russian involvement in movement of WMDs out of Iraq to Syria prior to the war. Otherwise the administration would exploit this after taking so much flak over not finding enough WMDs in Iraq.

Because fissile material is harder to track in the U.S. than 2-ton shipping containers.

"Well said sir well said."

Well said?? When did being an ally let any nation being able to run anything. Let 'em get New Orleans up and runnin' with all that arab oil to start off with, and we will see how it goes.

Well now, oceanview, if Halliburton is so well situated to run these six ports then why didn't Halliburton submit a competitive bid?

We are talking about the merits of free enterprise. If someone can make a case for the UAE acquisition being a danger
to the security of the United States of America that's different.

But I haven't heard a solid case made yet.

I do believe it is standard practice to rationalize the genius of Dubya retroactively, in such a way that one's previous incorrect predictions simply become another part of the brilliant master plan.

Coming to the end of the 20th Century, it was commonly referred to as "Spin", right here on FR no less. Blackbird.

So? Who wields the club? Not the general public.

The general public. Think back to Iran in the late 1970s - the government was friendly to the US but not the general public - that didn't turn out so well.

Saudi Arabia is a good example. The Saudi goverment is always having to talk out of both sides of its mouth to prevent being toppled.

It's just not wise to give this sort of power to a nation that has a significant Islamic population.

Ironic, because in 24, they were shipping the Gas via the Ports shipping containers.

Stereo typing other conservatives by calling them "Bushbots" in some superfluous attempt at insulting their beliefs is quite childish of you.

It is true that Savage started the term so I guess it was not original thinking on your part. It also lacks intellectual class. (Heavy on the intellectual.)

The whole point in all of this is however, will our ports be safe or will they be at risk? All the INSULTS in the world won't change the real facts.

How far will the UAE get if they actually do get the contract to manage the ports? If or when they do and an attack is carried out as the result of their managing those ports, do you direly believe they will not worry about what will happen to their beloved UAE after the US tracks down the perpetrators and turns their entire country into a sand-lot style pile of rubble?

If we were attacked, it wouldn't take long or be very difficult to figure out the source. And they are known for their smart business practices so they would avoid such a thing happening as strongly as we would.
