WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The president of the U.S. bishops blasted a recent episode of the cable television comedy "South Park" that he said showed Mary in "a tasteless and ugly fashion."
In a Dec. 14 letter to Tom Freston, co-president and chief operating officer of Viacom International, parent company of Comedy Central, the cable channel that shows "South Park," Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Wash., said the channel showed "extreme insensitivity" in choosing to show the episode.
The episode, which first was shown Dec. 7 and had repeat showings in the week following, was titled "Bloody Mary." During the episode, a "South Park" character claims to have been sprayed with blood from a bodily orifice of a Virgin Mary statue.
When Pope Benedict XVI investigates in the show, he declares that she was merely menstruating. The episode's premiere date came the day before the feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation for Catholics.
Your posts are reminiscent of the Spanish Inquisition. Until now, I was disgusted with the left's use of the phrase "Christian Taliban", but after reading some of the posts on this thread, I am finding the term highly appropriate.
Yeah, I'm doing a little "research" into his previous threads/posts and I'm noticing a OVER-ZELOUS attitude.
something in Denmark stinks....
8^)
What do you expect? I'm dealing with South Parkers. They all make the same imbecilic defense of the show so I have to recycle my funny arguments.
It's a cross I'm willing to bear.
People who look for every anti-Bush and anti-military article they can find and then post them on the internet, thus demoralizing our troops and president.
And you do that day in and day out at FR.
I think churchillbuff's account was stolen and is now used by a troll of some sort. I'm serious. The account was activated in 1998. There is still nothing on his personal pages at all and he simply creates conflict, etc.
I wonder if FR management has any way of verifying the account.
Not the language I'd use, but that nails exactly what I think.
A few Bob Hope jokes are thus in order:
Happiness is watching the TV at your girlfriend's house during a power failure.
An old man walks into a bar, sits down, and starts crying. The bartender asks,"What's wrong?" The old man looks at the bartender through teary eyes and between sobs says, "I married a beautiful woman two days ago . She's a natural blonde, twenty-five, intelligent, a marvelous cook, a meticulous housekeeper, extremely sensitive to my wants and needs, very giving, my best friend, and intensely passionate in bed." The bartender stares at the old man for a brief moment and says, "But that sounds great! You have what every man wants in a woman, so why are you crying? The old man looks at the bartender and says, "I can't remember where I live!"
An old man and an old woman have been married for over fifty years. Their children are grown and spread out across the country with families of their own. The old man and old woman are sitting in rocking chairs on their porch watching the sunset as they have done for the past twenty-five years. All of a sudden, the old woman stands up and backhands the old man. He falls off the rocking chair, gets up, straightens his hair, puts his glasses back on and asks,"What the hell was that for?" The old woman looks at him and says,"That's for fifty years of lousy sex!"
The old man says,"Oh," and sits back down in his rocker. Less than a minute later the old man stands up and backhands the old woman. She falls out of her rocker, rolls across the porch, and stops at the railing. She gets up, pulls her dress down, makes sure Here teeth are secure and ask, "What the hell was that for?" The old man points his finger at her and says, "That's for knowing the difference!"
You know that look women get when they want sex? Me, neither."

See this is about the time in the South Park episode when you would be shown, struggling to bear your little cross up the street when Jesus trots by you actually bearing his heavier one, and ~winning~.
HA!! Good one, HOTD.
EXcellent post, Dog. Just excellent!
"But seriously, were you trying to make any other point than that SP fans are imbeciles?"
"Nope. I think the point has been aptly demonstrated."
Oooh, very cutting.
You said none of your points (with an s) had been refuted. Now you say you had only one point, which was really only an opinion. I'm having a hard time figuring out where you get the intellectual authority to call others an imbecile.
Bump.
I'm sure there have been complaints.
I thought it was hilarious, myself. And I am not a Christian.
You sound like a bubblegum snapping teenage girl, so this reply may "so not" reach you. But for the record, Catholics do not worship Mary, the word is 'devotion'. Catholics 'venerate' Mary because God chose her from all time to bear His only Son and hence carry Salvation into the world.
Throughout the ages Mary has been called "The Ark of the New Covenant". The ancient Byzantine-rite Church has always venerated Mary as the "Theotokis", (God-bearer). The Byzantine liturgy is among the most ancient liturgies in Christianity.
The earliest Christians venerated the Virgin Mary with frescos of her that were discovered in the ancient Catacombs in Rome that date back to the late ist century/early 2nd century.
The Blesed Virgin Mary revealed to us in the Bible "from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed", (Luke 1:48). Do you call her blessed?
No doubt with Jesus farting the Sermon on the Mount the whole way.
Riight. The SP folks on this thread are reminiscent of Howard Stern bashing Bush and Michael Powell as "prudes."
Well, it's just part of the story, I'm not sure how it ends up (that's why Matt and Trey make the big bucks and I don't) but I'm sure in the end right wins out and human wackiness is enjoyed and completely devoured.
I've observed only one over-riding principle in South Park, and that is that people are funny.
Not surprising. Perhaps if I farted it you wouldn't have such a hard time figuring it out. That appears to be the level of intellect that appeals to South Parkers.
