Natalee Holloway - Case Discussion Extended Thread 15

Missing: Natalee Holloway participated in a trip with 125 seniors from Mountain Brook High School to Aruba in the Caribbean. In the early morning hours on May 30, 2005 Natalee was seen leaving a nightclub and getting into a vehicle. She failed to turn up Monday morning for her return flight home and she has not been seen since. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance.

Profile: Natalee Holloway was born on October 21, 1986 to Beth and Dave Holloway. She grew up in the close-knit community of Mountain Brook, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. She was very popular and respected by her classmates and had a reputation among peers at being very intelligent and focused on her future. She lived up to her reputation, graduating as an honors student from the Mountain Brook High School.

On 6-10 “FoxNews,” “AP,” and "CNN" reported that DOMPIG and EDWARD CROES stated that a body had been found and police were being taken to a crime scene (those reports were retracted by Aruban officials the same day). DOMPIG also stated that one of the persons in custody had stated “that something bad happened to NATALEE.” Shortly after that statement became public, a press conference was held in which one senior government official made no reference to the Assistant Commissioner's statement, choosing rather, to say that the authorities were at a critical juncture in the investigations.

On 6-10 NATALEE's family rushes to a lighthouse after a police official tells the media that one of the three young men in custody admitted “something bad happened” and was leading police to the scene. But prosecutors refuse to confirm or deny the information, which yields no new developments.

On 7-11 J. MANSUR reported that on 6-10 while Main Suspect J. SLOOT was being interrogated, SLOOT “broke down and cried” and told interrogators, “WE buried NATALEE.” (my EMPHASIS) J. MANSUR reported the first burial spot was in the beach, near a fisherman’s hut, just north of the “Marriott Hotel.” (sometime during the second week after NATALEE went missing it was reported by local ARUBA media that a boat cover, tape, rope, and an anchor(s) that were near the fishermen’s hut were reported stolen) J. MANSUR also reported that as of 7-11 Main Suspect J. SLOOT has told investigators 14 to 16 different versions of events.

On 8-1 BETH said that on 6-10 BETH was given information that Main Suspect P. SLOOT had confessed and that NATALEE was probably not alive, so BETH then phoned her mother and told her.

On 8-14 BETH said that on 6-10 and into 6-11 they were receiving reports that one of the Suspects in custody had murdered NATALEE, and it was from 6-10 on that the family only started thinking that NATALEE may have been murdered.

On 8-17 BETH said that her D.N.A. was requested by JANSSEN on 6-10 (BETH gave saliva and blood samples)

On 6-10 ODUBER said, “finding Natalee Holloway was the number one goal," but, during the same 6-10 weekend, the search for NATALEE was actually scaled back by the Aruba government, with Aruba search teams venturing out only after first receiving credible tips and coast guard patrols off shore.

By 6-10 only 5 F.B.I. agents remained in ARUBA observing the investigation, said Judy Orihuela. The weekend of 6-10 two UNITED STATES F.B.I. divers traveled to ARUBA over the weekend and returned to the UNITED STATES early the next week. On 6-10 ODUBER made a national radio address, saying if anything happened to HOLLOWAY it would be bad for the island, long considered one of the safest CARIBBEAN OCEAN nations to visit, whose main industry is tourism.

On 6-10 “law enforcement sources close to the investigation” said a substance found in Suspect D. KALPOE’s Honda was not blood, based on a sample analyzed at an F.B.I. laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. Main Suspect J. SLOOT, Suspect D. KALPOE,

On 6-10 ROBIN HOLLOWAY told the "AP," "We think she's alive," who added that authorities told the family they had expanded the search to other nearby islands.

On 6-10 PIETERSZ told the "AP" she had seen documents, reportedly statements made by Current Suspect D. KALPOE and Current Suspect S. KALPOE, that NATALEE had kissed Main Suspect J. SLOOT in the car.

NBC reported 6-10 that UNITED STATES F.B.I. agents met with NATALEE's parents, telling them the agency could not yet determine if NATALEE is dead.

RICHARD PARTON, an AMERICAN and owner of a voice stress analyzation equipment company goes to ARUBA to offer his equipment to the ARUBAN police for use. As far as is known the ARUBAN police never utilized his equipment.

F.B.I. Special Agents within the UNITED STATES have questioned most, if not all, of the “Mountain Brook High School” students who went on the ARUBA trip.

On 6-11 STRAATEN was asked by a DUTCH journalist if he had any hopes for a positive outcome? STRAATEN replied, “You always have to be hopeful, but I don’t believe anymore that we will find Natalee alive.” When asked why not, STRAATEN replied, “Because I know the details of the investigation and you don't!”

Main Suspect J. SLOOT, Suspect D. KALPOE, and Suspect S. KALPOE retained in custody after 6-11 hearing.

PAUL REYNOLD’s told "CNN" on 7-15, “And back on the confession. You know, what was reported is somewhat vague. But the deputy commissioner report of the Aruban police, reported the boys were talking that Friday night. The next morning, the chief spokesperson for the minister of justice was reporting that Natalee was dead. The F.B.I. had even intimated to my sister that they thought Natalee was probably not alive based on what the boys were saying. So we're confident they were saying something. We don't know exactly what it was.”

On 6-11 BETH said she wrote in her journal, “Could a cover-up be involved?”

On 6-11 “CNN” reported that HOLLY BROWN was at “Carlos ‘n Charlies” on 5-29/30, and “CNN” reported further, “Holly Brown, a Holloway friend who was at the club that night, said she found Van Der Sloot to be ‘very different.’ ‘He lied about his age, and when we went on the [“Carlos ‘n Charlies”] web site, we found pictures of him there one week before at the same place, wearing the same clothes.’”
