If this type of language is rhetoric from 'friends', I doubt he'll listen - and who could blame him?

Yep.

When did he say lay of my friend to Ted Kennedy and the gang?

He let Kennedy make his usual ass of himself and he is trying to prevent the my way or the highway "conservatives" making the usual asses of themselves. It has been that way for 5 long years with the unappeasables jumping from imagined betrayal to the next.

"now having given so much to put the Republicans and the Bush family BACK in power, who believed the oath Bush gave to church leaders, to conservative leaders, in back door meetings, when lots of money exchanged hands, and money from common people hard earned, and who told the common people all over this nation that he will fight to put a conservative on the bench, and now this from Mr. Peepers he tells us to “tone it down”?"

I was one of those conservatives who gave time, energy, money and intellectual effort to re-electing the president and I agree with him on this one, not the rage-aholic wing of the Republican party wagging their fingers and saying "Do as I say or else!" And I do not agree with Ms. Ingram and her ugly name calling of the president. The disrespect in calling him "Mr. Peepers" is an afront to all decency.

The fact is he's right. Let's tone down the rhetoric AND the assumptions here about any Bush nominee to the Supreme Court. Gonzalez is being attacked based on one ruling in Texas. Does that make us the far right any better than the far left in demagoguing Bush nominees? Why don't we all take the time to really look into the man's record rather than how someone else is representing it. And I agree with the person who posted on the #2 reply that there are more constructive ways to express disagreement with the president than this childish, Air America-like name calling, especially at a time the Democrats are attacking him on EVERYTHING from the left, including on a Supreme Court nomination not even yet made. We don't need to stoop to their deranged level and snipe at the president from the right. Come on folks. Just take a deep breath and wait and see what happens. And let's look into what Gonzalez REALLY stands for before jumping to conclusions. Ingram has lost me as a listener.

I don't believe for a New York minute that she called him "Mr. Peepers". The guy that posted this put his words in her mouth and is too gutless to even respond to his own thread.

And what if all of this "he's gonna nominates Gonzales" stuff is just Liberal rumor mongering to split the GOP ranks?

Waiting for the actual nomination, FROM PREESIDENT BUSH, instead of all of this stupid hyperventilating, would be the sensible, mature, logical way to do things. And no, it would NOT be "too late" then.

He was appointed Attorney General of the United States and we still don't know what he stands for?

So I guess you missed the confirmation hearings.

Come on, Mr. President, do what you promised supporters you would do about the Supreme Court. A Scalia or a Thomas. And, CLOSE THE DAMN BORDERS! (Not the bookstore.)

"Yeah he may not get reelected."

Or, more than a few true conservatives might, just might, sit out the next midterm election, dems controlling the house and senate for Bush's last two years would be totally unpleasant methinks.

Too many pubbie pols are akin to firebrand revolutionaries talking grandiose in the hills. Once they come down to take power, they are no different than the former occupants. Power for power's sake was what they were really after, not true change for betterment of the country.

Why in the hell work anymore listening to just more liar's lie.

Okay, if she actually said even some of this, then she's not worth paying any attention to. The woman scorned, breast cancer, and GOD only knows what else, has melted her brains, because this is juvenile detritus.

Yep, he is expected to do what 42 previous presidents couldn't do and didn't even try to do. Good luck with that.

I hope you're right. My apologies to Laura and all if she didn't say that. She has every right to disagree of course. But to be disagreeable is just not called for.

You said... "All Bush is saying is lay off the damn personal attacks on his friend. He wouldn't be much of a man if he didn't."

Okay...Bush defends the honor of his friend...who isn't even in the nomination process...and whose treatment by conservatives has been fairly mild, his persona practically lauded by the MSM...yes mild compared to a dedicated REPUBLICAN public servant, a Bush NOMINEE...who has been savaged in the press and by democrats.

Meet John Bolton...still twisting in the wind.

Now maybe you and some others on this site can understand why people like myself are frustrated....failing to understand why Bush doesn't take it personally when his own nominees are savaged.

What does he owe these men and women?

"He was appointed Attorney General of the United States and we still don't know what he stands for?"

I think anyone who has bothered to investigate it knows what he stands for. I really question whether those who have been so quick to go on the attack against Gonzalez know what he stands for.
