Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation Urges Wife of Disabled Jacksonville Man to Err on the Side of Life To: National Desk Contact: Pamela F. Hennessy for the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, 727-445-1766, phenn@zimp.org CLEARWATER, Fl., May 14 /Christian Wire Service/ - The volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, along with the family of Terri Schiavo, are urging Jacksonville, Florida resident, Eliza Thomas, to allow her 34 year old husband to live. The Foundation has learned that Scott Thomas suffered brain injury in September of 2004 and has since been incapacitated and dependent on others. His mother, Pamela Patton, has petitioned the courts for guardianship of the disabled man and was awarded a temporary guardianship which could expire as early as June 3, 2005. Mr. Thomas's wife, Eliza, is currently seeking to take his guardianship over. Ms. Patton is currently pursuing neurological testing and treatment options with a Clearwater, Florida neurologist, Dr. William Hammesfahr. Mrs. Thomas, however, has reportedly stated that her intention is to move her husband to the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and seek the authority to direct the removal of his gastric feeding tube, causing his death by dehydration and starvation. According to Ms. Patton, her son speaks a limited vocabulary, gives affirmative and negative hand signals and has successfully answered questions of where he lives, where he attended school and his situation. She states that he is aware and oriented. The volunteers of the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation are urging Florida's Department of Children and Families (Florida's social services agency) to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Thomas's injuries and to ensure that he is not currently a victim of abuse and neglect. Terri Schiavo's family is asking Mrs. Eliza Thomas to err on the side of life. According to them, the dehydration and starvation death suffered by their daughter in March of this year was anything but a peaceful and painless death. Statement of Bob Schindler, Terri Schiavo's father: The suffering our daughter endured and her death over the course of nearly two weeks was horrific. I am pleading with Mrs. Thomas to please reconsider her decision to seek the removal of Scott's feeding tube and to allow him to receive the therapy and rehabilitation he needs to improve. I beg Mrs. Thomas to give her husband a chance. |
The writer messed up on the name. We are going to have that corrected.
No, she is not remarried. His mother was awarded guardianship because there was enough suspicion that the judge in the case ruled that he would benefit more from being away from his wife until the investigation was completed.

Scott Thomas is apparently aware, responsive and able to communicate. Reminiscent of several similar cases, Scott received his injury last November while alone at home with the person who now wants him to die.
Before the mysterious fall, he was suffering mysterious periodic stomach problems that his Doctors seemed unable to diagnose (poisoning comes to mind)...
From your link:
"But one September day, paramedics found Scott on his kitchen floor with several hairline fractures down the left side of his head....
"According to Patton, Liza says Scott fell in the kitchen, but doctors tell Scott's mother his injuries are consistent with a head trauma, not a fall."

I hope this is being investigated by the police.
Video report on Scott Thomas story
Greer is just plain blind (to the 'facts'), never mind the nuances
>>>>To say that Hammesfahr was 'cleared' is disingenuous at best. His probation was upheld by Kirkland and confirmed in the first report in 2003 above the Kirkland decision.
>>His probation was overturned by the Florida Department of Health. He was cleared of any wrong doing. The document I have referenced and posted many times months ago may not be available. I will try to get you up to date tomorrow if I can find a new source for it.
>>FUE, do you have the doc I am referring too?
No, but google works wonders... try a few searches like this
and you'll find it

Your common sense is impressive. In fact, virtually every claim in the Thomas story is false and can easily be checked. See the case file GA-2004-75 in Green Cove Springs (Clay County Courthouse). The mother's guardianship is NOT temporary, there is no hearing schedule to remove her, and the file contains some interesting recent correspondence from the supposedly brain dead Scott. His wife has no desire (or means) to terminate his life. He can make his own decisions.

I duid not find that info.
Hello Factuary.
Can you please explain to the rest of us how you were able to access a sealed and confidential document? The papers in Clay County have been deemed confidential since March.
The guardianship IS temporary, the wife filed in her petition of November 18th that the courts would be called upon to "approve the withdrawal of life support or other consequential decisions" and because she had been married to him for 3 1/2 years she was in the best position to know his wishes for health care, as frequently expressed while competent.
Also, she has made NUMEROUS statements to anyone who has asked that he was dead, and that she wanted him dead, and said "if he can't mow the lawn, he's not my husband". Oh yeah- she also stated, 6 weeks after his "accident" that "he's had HIS chance".
Might want to check your facts BEFORE you start calling people liars.

You can see for yourself that files are not available for viewing via the website. Does this mean you physically went to Green Cove Springs and requested to see the file?

Posted to the wrong reply.
Any updates on this story?
I hope they don't try to starve/dehydrate Scott like they did to Terri. God help Scott and his Mom.
Have you heard of this lawsuit -- the lawsuit by the wife is claiming defamation because of the statement "to err on the side of life"...

WOW! and NO! I haven't heard that. That would be big news and probably backfire on Eliza. Was that comment printed or broadcast anywhere?
Has anyone else heard of this?
How could that statement possibly defame her?
It makes no sense.
PLEASE remove me from your ping list...I only have webtv and these pings eats up all my space.
