Her travels may be over, but Wilbanks' troubles may have just begun. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said he was examining evidence for a possible charge of making false statements to a government agency.
Sartain believes that's not necessary.
"She is deeply regretful of the pain she caused her family, her fiancé, her friends and the community who rallied to her aid," the lawyer said Wednesday. "I believe Jennifer committed no crime."
Arrests for shoplifting
Sartain, a former Hall County district attorney, knows her client. Court records show that Wilbanks was arrested three times in that county on shoplifting charges from 1996 to 1998.
In 1996, as district attorney, Sartain prosecuted Wilbanks for allegedly shoplifting $1,740 in merchandise from a Gainesville mall, court records show. Sartain dropped the felony charge after Wilbanks, then 24, completed a pretrial diversion program, the records show. Wilbanks performed 75 hours of community service and paid restitution, according to court records.
Months before that felony arrest, police had charged Wilbanks with misdemeanor shoplifting for allegedly taking $37.05 in merchandise from a Gainesville Wal-Mart. Court records show that officials dismissed the case after Wilbanks completed "Project Turnabout," a six-week counseling program for shoplifters.
She was arrested again, city court records show, in April 1998, when Wilbanks, then 25, was charged with shoplifting $98 worth of merchandise from a store. She pleaded guilty and served two weekends in jail. A judge also sentenced her to probation, a $400 fine and 50 hours of community service.
ROFL. I can't believe all the runaway bride stuff on eBay. There's even a runaway bride doll complete with phone booth!
likes of Greta Van Sucker accusing him?
Greta from the beginning put the thought out she
could be a run a way
This whole thing makes me feel dirty. There are people here on this website who are ready to stone her.
[Freepmail me to get on or off this Not-A-Ping-List.]
This WOMAN (not a flippin' girl) created a dangerous and costly situation, and should be punished for it.
3 years Probation, as well as recompense.
nasty thing!
Snow man was making fun of Hannity yesterday. It is part of Hannity's 'darling' national appeal.
Levin's show REALLY rubbed it in yesterday. He had the catering company and the photographer call in. etc.
It's probably not, but it could be hyper-thyroidism. She's too thin, but that is the style now.

Antisocial Personality Disorder is also known as psychopathy or
sociopathy. Individuals with this disorder have little regard for the
feeling and welfare of others. As a clinical diagnosis it is usually
limited to those over age 18. It can be diagnosed in younger people
if the they commit isolated antisocial acts and do not show signs of
another mental disorder.
Antisocial Personality Disorder is chronic, beginning in adolescence
and continuing throughout adulthood. There are ten general
symptoms:
not learning from experience
no sense of responsibility
inability to form meaningful relationships
inability to control impulses
lack of moral sense
chronically antisocial behavior
no change in behavior after punishment
emotional immaturity
lack of guilt
self-centeredness
People with this disorder may exhibit criminal behavior. They may
not work. If they do work, they are frequently absent or may quit
suddenly. They do not consider other people's wishes, welfare or
rights. They can be manipulative and may lie to gain personal
pleasure or profit. They may default on loans, fail to provide child
support, or fail to care for their dependents adequately. High risk
sexual behavior and substance abuse are common. Impulsiveness,
failure to plan ahead, aggressiveness, irritability, irresponsibility,
and a reckless disregard for their own safety and the safety of
others are traits of the antisocial personality.
I Rather like your rebuttal. Your premise. is of course RIGHT. The whole thing in parenting is to know what exactly is RIGHT. Society has wrongly taken much of the responsibity from the parent. It has punished the parent for taking drastic action. It has then washed it's hands of the result.
Problem is though at one given point one does not have control always. On a lighter note though. My good wife, said, if one of them did that " I would kill'em, I would just be so furious I would find it hard to forgive".
My luck, I think, in that it is sometimes in "lap of the Gods". We mere men???? . I am trying this 'er Compassionate Conservatism- I think El Rushbo may be on side.
She doesn't have to make a "melodramatic" apology on tv...but how about coming on tv and making a statement where she actually admits WHAT she did that was wrong ( there is a list of wrongs) and admitting that she is sorry.
To this date she has not personally ackowledged what exactly she did to hurt others or potentially cause even more harm....and while we are at it, how about realizing that this behavior may affect future missing persons.
If we use television to help find missing persons and a whole community ( that includes national community ) gets involved, you do have a responsibility.
LOL! Isn't that the truth?
I'd give anything if everyone reading this thread (including me) would go get a temporary and very anonymous screen name and then start digging in our closets. What would we find?
Multiple sex partners ... failed marriages ... Kids who have "problems with authority figures".... family members with mental illness (otherwise known as "the crazy aunt in the basement")... a history of using drugs .... a few crossdressers... a few alcoholics... a few people who aren't sure of their child's father's identity but they tell everyone it's their husband's and hold their breath ... previous abortions ... I could go on and on....
Spoken as a true FR smartass! 8^)

Oops, I think you may have misunderstood.
Er - yes.
No one wants to stone her - check the hyperbole, Hildy (I know your just a girl, but TRY)
When you haven't had sex for five years, that may seem inviting.
All kidding aside, I bet she had sex in Vegas and so had "proof" she had been raped, but finally chickened out on the whole story.
She started dating Firemen.

Does it make you feel better about yourself to insult this "woman?" Men leave ALL THE TIME.
