According to the article that this thread links to, the FBI has done extensive testing of both the father and grandfather (voice stress test and polygraph test) and they are convinced that these two men are not involved. I was like you, thinking that most likely suspect was the father, until I read about the FBI's conclusions.

What struck me is how calm the grandmother seemed the first time I saw her. She was talking about putting the girl to bed the night before and she just seemed to have it so pulled together. Maybe it's the shock just putting her on autopilot? I think there is always some suspicion about the family in these cases (must make it even more horrible for innocent families) but it's tough to know how people would react to such a devastating event. I guess every family's reaction is going to seem peculiar in some way. It's just not an event anyone can understand. And so sad about the girl's mother essentially having abandoned her; I heard that she was so estranged she didn't even recognize her daughter's photo. You just have to hope this little girl didn't meet up with someone via the Internet... though I hope police would quickly have been able to determine if that is the case?

If he did it, he's playing up the part of mournful father really nice.

Just one Question:Have you read the whole article?
The father and grandfather have both been cleared by the FBI.

he spends too much time in front of the cameras.

Yeah, he's following the advice given to him by other fathers that have had their children abducted.

The more media attention, the better.

Supposedly he agreed readily to the lie detector test.

Don't you think if your child was missing - you would spend every chance you got in front of the cameras? Myself, I would not want to but to get out the word and possibly even change the abductor's heart (not likely) - it's a thing you gotta do even when your heart has gone insane with worry and grief.
