Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Then why don't you follow Reagan's vision of tearing down draconian walls.

Reagan wanted the wall down because people were being kept in - we want the wall up to keep criminals out. Big difference. Perhaps you think that prison walls should come down too?

But why would you prefer permanent immigrant families over temporary guest workers?

It's mostly about economics, guest workers do nothing but lower wages. They will be used and exploited by employers and all for the sake of profit while Americans pay the social costs. We've had guest worker programs in the past and they have failed for exactly that reason.

I believe that you will believe that even if I were Jesus himself, so I believe I could care less what you believe.

Here's reality...I will not get banned from this site as a result of posting from a site which is not allowed in FR.

I may get banned for many other things...but not for that.

Would you care to make a wager?

Oh I forgot your mindset is that a person taking a janitors job is just as heinous as a murderer.

Also please show me the quote where Reagan said that a new berlin wall be built as you propose and are pushing for.

Hint, there isn't one.

Also Reagan was the one who first proposed NAFTA.

He also slapped tariffs on Japan for dumping on our markets and threatening American jobs. He was a firm believer in fair trade.

WE didn't rip that off --- that was their own government that ripped them off.

Over 4 thousand police to keep a few elderly braceros off his ranch? So this lying hypocrit believes in border patrol when it comes to his own luxury ranch? And why doesn't he just pay them back the money that was stolen from them?

Although the site is privately owned and Robinson is free to do as he likes, these recent purges have left long term members wondering if the White House or Republican National Committee has undue influence at Free Republic.

HUH??
Wow, maybe Mr Gheen needs some new medication for his paranoia.

For the language impaired --- back in November some of the poor elderly braceros Luis is referring to went to Fox's ranch to petition for their money --- the money the Mexican government stole from them. Of course what does Vicente Fox do? Calls out 4 thousand police to guard his place. That's pretty good border control he practices.

Maybe it's the other way around.
Maybe the reason that the fellow in the White House is there, and the Republican National Committee is the way it is, is BECAUSE OF millions of people like Freepers.

Maybe this dog is wagging that tail.

But I guess that would be democracy, and folks on the left can never be counted on to really believe THAT can ever work...no, clearly there must a conspiracy. Jeez.

No one from this forum was implied nor do I care. My only interest are those politicians who support open borders and Washington is loaded with them.

I simply do not wish to be associated with these sites. I'm sure that anyone who wishes to associate with these people already knows where to find them. I don't want it on FR.

Not famiiar with these sites, but trust your judgement 100%. So thanks for helping to keep out the riffraff Jim.

Actually he got the Japanese to make voluntary restrictions for cars, and I think he only slapped tariffs to protect Harley-Davidson.

Anyway, if you look at Reagan's speeches his core belief was in free trade.

Um no actually it was cars, computer parts and other assorted goods. Btw there's nothing wrong with trade but it has to be fair. RR was consistent in that belief as were many Republicans before him.

FITZ, it took me a long time to understand that your real interest is in reforming the government in Mexico, not the problems we have in the U.S. because of our unrealistic immigration laws.

As I recall you have both business and family interests in Mexico.

Your interest in the immigration issues is apparently only to use them to influence internal reforms in Mexico.

That's fine, I doubt that many would disagree with you about the reforms you want, but most of us are more concerned about the needs and problems in America than micromanaging Mexico's internal affairs.

Both the federal government and the states enter into treaties with Mexico to resolve any conflicts we have with them. That's the way it should be handled if it's any of our business.

The Only way we're going to get a handle on this is enforce the laws against hiring illegal aliens.

I agree......( Here comes the "but-monkey"..vbg ) but...I think it's not that simple.

It's a multifaceted problem....and ALL the laws that pertain to illegal aliens should be enforced. One example would be...when illegal aliens are located they should be ,without much discussion, sent back to where they came from.

Another example would be we should make it less attractive...to come here. In other words don't guarantee citizenship just for being born here or offering amnesty for those who are breaking the law.

I could go on...but I'm sure you "see" my point.

FRegards,

I do not have family interests nor business in Mexico --- I have family interests here in the USA --- and I'm tired of Mexico's only solution to it's vast and growing problems being the taxpayers of the USA. Time for them to fix up that mess they call Mexico --- and when they do most of this stops.
