Could you imagine Israel telling the U.S. what to do in Washington? Telling Canada what to do in Ottawa? What gives Secretary Rice the right to tell us what to do in our capital, a city that is holy to Jews the world over? Perhaps we should not unilaterally decide we have a right to exist as a Jewish state either.

Jerusalem is the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel. Nobody has the right to tell Israel or the Jewish people what to do with it.

IMO, Rice has been very heavy-handed thus far with Israel....Unless, the content has been pre-discussed and ok'd to air to the MSM.

I'm starting to get a very uneasy feeling about the way our policy towards Israel appears to be trending lately. I'm not sure if this is all just "tough talk" for the "arab streets" consumption not meant to have any real substance, or if it portends a major shift of our policy.

For now, I'm willing to give Secretary Rice--and, by extension, the entire administration--the benefit of the doubt. President Bush has always, it seemed to me, stood by Israel, and he had nothing but obvious contempt for the late slab of human waste known as Arafat.

But I must admit that I'm hearing more of Foggy Bottom in Dr. Rice's pronouncement's every passing day--and that is worrisome.

Israel doesn't give the US billions of dollars every year. It's that simple. If Israel wants our money, it will dance to our tune. If it wants to be independent, we wouldn't stop it from walking away.

Earth to Rice: Please shut up. Jerusalem is the city of David and Jesus and not the city of the pedophile "prophet" Muhammed, who never even stepped foot there. The city will forever be the capital of Israel and not a square inch of it should ever be controlled by moon god Nazis.

I can give you more than $4 billion reasons why the US should be able to tell the Israelis how to behave if it is US interest to see stability emerge in that portion of the middle east. IF you don't like it write us a refund check!

Israel should tell Condi and Bush to get lost. They're as wrong on this one as on our porous borders.

It takes two to cut a deal. Israel has to decide what is in its best long term interest. If Abbas gets reasonable, offering up something that takes into account Israel's physical and demographic security, and Israel says screw you however, it might undermine US support for Israel, and then the nation will be truly alone.

It is not wise, imo, to be ungrateful to your major supporter - the good ol USA. If you don't want "advice" from us - then maybe you don't want assistance or support from us either?

Perhaps you don't want anymore American financial, military or politcal aid?

I have been a big supporter of Israel. But I found your post offensive.

Perhaps Dr. Rice's visit to Israel was make her first public appearance in the Middle East consistent with Colin Powell's previous comments. Give the Pali's a little time. They will explode all possibilities of peace with a reckless school bus bombing or some other vile undertakings. Then Sharon would be justified in seizing more Gaza territory. The Palis have a proven capacity to destroy the 'peace process.' The truth is that Hamas does not want peace. And Hamas controls the Palestinian government. 'Nuff said.

There should be two things everyone should keep in mind when they read these "US SecState tells Israel to bend over" threads.

1) The Secretary of State is charged with enacting the foreign policy decided by the President. Rice isn't saying anything Bush doesn't want her to.

2) The news media always gets it at least half-wrong.

The Israelis have bent over so far that they can kiss their own asses. Of course Americans think they can tell Israelis what to do. Under Sharon Israel has degenerated into a colony of the USA and Sharon has become a colonial governor. All the reasonable people warned that the pullout from Gaza would beget demands for more concessions not fewer.

Rice said Sunday that the disengagement plan is an historic opportunity, and that the future security of Palestinians and Israelis will be ensured only by two states existing side by side.

It is insanity to give a hostile group of terrorists statehood. They will be free to ship in missiles, arms, and who knows what else as a free state. Giving these rabble statehood will destabilize the entire situation, even more than now.

Truthfully, I am only shocked at the open statements of Condi Rice. Maybe I am mistaken, but up until now the US has been careful not to make its thoughts "public" in dealing with Israel.

IMHO, this represents a threat to the actual existence of Israel. I am not sure if Rice represents a new aggressiveness on the part of the administration or if it is her own "style". She is a problem any way you look at her.
