The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.
Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.
Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."
A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.
By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.
About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

The DNR (Wisconsin's game wardens) does not handle trespassing claims & local police treat them as a minor nuisance to be handled as such (when they get to it).
IMHO the landowner did the only practical thing under the circumstances, who knew that this guy was gonna go postal.

For what it's worth, there has been anecdotal evidence offered that this was the third time in two years that Vang had to be ejected for trespassing on the same land. He also has an unpaid warrant for trespassing in Green Co.
Kinda looks like he doesn't much care where he put his feet.

And ignores the fact, pointed out to him repeatedly, that the police would ask you if you had asked the intruder to leave and if not to do so.
Last night I was a little harsh. This topic hit a sore spot and you and I are both new to this site so I'm going to try to start over. Try to help me here, tell me if I'm not understanding something right.
1)You believe that it's okay to tell someone to leave your property but not to make them mad.
2)You believe that if the person does get mad, then you should NOT call the nearest people for help but call the cops and run away.
3)You believe that protecting your property stops at your front door.
4)You believe that vacation property should be treated differently than your primary residence.
5)You believe that trespassing should carry a 2-3 yr. jail sentence.
6)You believe that the victims should have known that this nutcase was a nutcase.
Please correct me where I'm wrong.
Yes it was.
I am going to repeat myself again.
Prior to this incident, if you called the police about someone in your deer stand they would tell you to tell him to leave!
They would NOT respond with a SWAT team. They would not respond with the state police. They in fact, would not have responded at all except to ask if you had asked him to leave. And just asking him to leave is what set the little murderer off.
You keep ignoring this basic fact.
The. Police. Tell. You. To. Tell. Them. To. Leave.
Now as promised here is my interpretive dance on the subject.
In a nutshell, there is no difference between your two scenarios.
What is different is the level of threat by the trespasser. Up until last Sunday, hunters could count on civility and respect from each other. If a trespasser had to be told to leave, he may do so grudgingly and the owners may be wary but the trespasser would eventually leave without incident.
MR. Vang changed all that.
If the reports hold up, he's done it before. It may turn out that he has been in the woods hunting people rather than deer for several years. He would not be the first serial killer in Wisconsin history. The DNR should back check and see how many tags this "avid" hunter has filled since 2000.

Vang was leaving the scene. You, of course, overlooked that little point because it reveals that you are talking through your hat.
He turned around and started shooting.
Vang started to walk away and got approximately 40 yards away. Then Vang appeared to remove the scope from his rifle and turned around and started shooting.

They were only about 400 yards away. It wasn't that far.
Once again you are wrong. You are making a habit of it.
And once again there you go blaming the victims. You keep doing this and I am going to keep calling you on it.
Stop it.
"The hunter did everything right until he called in the other hunters, he should have got out of there, his life is NOT worth a tree stand."
I have some problems with this statement:
1)How did calling the other hunters provoke Vang?
2)Aren't you implying that the hunter knew his life was in danger?
3)Prior to this incidence, if you were out hunting for quail on your own property and came across another hunter who did not have your permission to be there, would you have followed your own advice?
