The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.
Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.
Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."
A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.
By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.
About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

And let someone sit on their land unchallenged. Ok where is you address. I want to come sit in you living room. And watch you sit there as I tear it up and watch you do nothing and wait for the cops to arrive. Then I will kick you dog, and watch you do nothing till the cops arrive.... An Armed person on my property with out my consent wheather they are acting threating or not poses a threat. As A property owner I have the right and obligation to challenge that persons presence. Just like you would not let me sit in you living room unchalleged I would not let someone squat on my property unchallenged just like these hunters. So get of the Blame the victims kick.
Learning experience, call the police...
the death of six innocent people is a "learning experience"? Real nice. As has been explained to you over and over you cannot wait on the police in this area, the real answer is to show up armed and shot the SOB before he kills everybody.
You are clueless aren't you. In regards to challenging someone I am refering to asking them why they are there and then asking them to leave. Kind like a guard at a military base challenges anyone who tries to enter without authorization. What effect would telling Vang that you are going to call the cops have? I don't think that would have motivated him to move. And the one fact that seems to escape you on this is, After he was asked to leave he fired on these people unprevoked according to police records. No matter what Vang committed several criminal acts. The hunters that were killed did not. They were only concerned about protecting their property.
..... as for Brokaw I'm glad he is retiring, when are Jennings and Koppel going to leave?Soon, I hope.
Well, I'm headin' out for the day very shortly.
See ya'll manana! :^D
Oh, Happy: Keep me up on the Ukraine Election stuff.
Have the wife make you some of that soup!
Oh, yeah. Thanks. :^D
and let them have free reign of you property? Ok once again i'll go back to my previous statement. Let me squat on your land unchallenged. while you say nothing and go call the cops. If you are willing to allow all of your personal security to be handled by the police without challenging a possible immediate threat then you are either very naive or have a lot of faith in you fellow man.
Thanks! I saved that recipe.See ya manana .....
yeah it is getting pretty seabiscuity here.
Besides, you have been grilled enough.
If someone entered my house, I am required to tell the person to leave, if he does not, then I can take measures to remove perp, even shooting him if my life is threatened.
You sound like the kid on the block that always ran to mommy when anything seemed dangerous to you.
It is if it is your property. YOU have rights to protect yourself on your property.
