The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.

Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.

Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."

A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.

By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.

About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

well then don't make comments about how quickly the wardens can respond. and check you facts. there are only two blue portions to wisconsin. Madison and Milwaukee. there rest of the state is red as in redneck red. I grew up there for 20 years and have been through many of the forests. You best bet if you get lost or their is problems is that a fellow hunter comes across you. because the state has a total of maybe 100 game wardens to cover the entire state. and the state cops closest station to where this occured was probably a good 60-70 miles to the south. so before you go spouting off call the cops, know what the heck you are talking about. and by the way your comment about wisconsin being a blue state is a dead give away that you are a du troll. so pack you crap and get the heck out we ain't buyin your tripe.

haha! Howdy!

Yesterday mornin', as the little woman and me were leaving the house a little before 5 to go to Bally's for our workout, a woman in a pickup was stalled in the main road next to my house. She came out as we were heading out and said she thought she had run out of gas and her truck died.

So I got my gas can and we ran to the gas station down the street and got some gas and got her goin'.

In the process, I got gas all over my hands and the wind was blowin' and it was pretty cool out for me. I was in my workout shorts, but had my wind breaker on.

I got a little chilled, and felt like I was comin' down with something yesterday, so I napped for about 5 hours yesterday and then slept 9 hours last night. I normally sleep about 5-6 hours per night, so sleepin' 9 hours is like most people sleeping for 12-13 for most folks.

Feelin' a little better today. I'm supposed to help a buddy take his boat to a friends place in a little bit. He's gonna drop it off there so he can use the boat trailer to run up to Chicago and haul his 2-seater Grumman airplane back down to Dallas.

I've been playin' catchup this mornin', but not making too much headway, haha!

I'll be playin' more catchup tomorrow, I guess. :^D

I don't know if you have disdain for the police but, a great number of them are former military. Not to sure about Wisconsin but, most state police carry AR-15's... And I'm sure you they have a SWAT team

I have to tell you C.D. that part of the problem you are having is that you just don't understand Northern Wisconsin. SWAT team? The nearest SWAT team is probably over an hour away. This is a very rural area we are talking about here. The local city police force probably includes three or four officers with many cities not having 24 hour coverage at all. The local sheriff's department which covers the county is larger but cover a large geographical area. There simply is not a large police presence in this area largely because the local residents are non-violent and sel-reliant. Look at what happened after the murders, they called in help from all over Northern and Central Wisconsin in addition to Madison and FBI to assist (which is really a class move because it is hard to admit you need help like this, the Sheriff there seems like a good guy and class act and should be commended) The local police have no backup, a car, pistol, and shotgun with them in the trunk. They would have been just as dead if they had showed up. Remember this guy didn't start shooting until the victims were going to call the police.

you gonna pay the states of wisconsin and minnesota to hire more wardens.

And I know Wisconsin very well. you obviously missed the statement that I lived there for 20 years and left there recently. What part of the only two blue areas of wisconsin don't you understand? for voting purposes the only reason wisconsin went blue this year is the major metro areas of milwaukee and Madison. There rest of the state voted a majority for Bush. Look at the county by county break down. Once again you make you assumption on what you have read. I make my statements based on expirence. My suggestion to you don't ever go up in the forests of wisconsin alone, and don't rely on the police or game wardens to help. Arresting the hmongs will not change the view of the community in regards to how the feel about private property. Your trying to use liberal logic and applying it to real world situation. It just doesn't work, because you suggest supposes that the hmongs understand the concept of property rights and how OUR law enforcement treats that issue. They don't. There has been a larger issue to with hmongs squating on private property and being arrested for it, yet they still continue to do it, they play the odds of getting caught just like anyone else. Once again by your statements you are clueless about wisconsin and the areas surronding it.

I'm sure there are no trespassing laws in Wisconsin and after a few of them got caught, I'm sure they would learn the meaning of private property. If more police are needed in these areas to police the woods, so be it.

You know your other problem is you don't do enough research. Vang had already been arrested while hunting in Wisconin for trespassing. Yes there are trespassing laws and the shooter in this case was one who was arrested for trespassing.

In fact it appears these people may have been shot BECAUSE they called the police.

once again you have no clue as to what your talking about. Maybe you should go explore the buget for the state of wisconsin and see where. the money that comes in from the liscense and hunting tags go.

More laws and more government employees with guns... that's a GREAT solution to the problem.

Hmmm interesting... would have been nice, if they could have busted him again and threw him in jail before he murdered these people...

Yes unfortunately he started blowing away unarmed people when they threatened to call the cops like you have endlessly suggested. I'm sure in the hour it took the cops to get there and find them Mr. Vang would have not done anything.
