The deer hunter accused of killing six hunters and wounding two others in the woods of northern Wisconsin is believed to have resided in the Toledo area as a youth and attended Jones Junior High School.
Chai Vang, 36, of St. Paul, is listed as a student at the South Toledo school during the 1982-1983 school year, according to Toledo Public School documents.
Willie Braggs, a social studies teacher at Jones, said he remembers Mr. Vang as a student. "He was in my class in 1982 and he seemed like a pretty good student," Mr. Braggs said. "It was a real shock [to hear of the shootings]."
A wave of Laotian refugees was brought to the Toledo area in 1979 and the early 1980s. They were resettled here with the help of church groups and other local sponsors. It was not clear yesterday when Mr. Vang's family came to Toledo or when they left.
By 1994, only about 35 Hmong families remained in the area, largely because many families moved to other cities where there were more jobs available and larger concentrations of others in their ethnic group.
About 24,000 Hmong live in St. Paul.

The man hunted down and killed six people who were in no way a threat to him. Doesn't exactly show respect for the law.
I don't call 'em MSM anymore. I use the acronym CLAM, for Clintonista Liberal Arsehole Media. CLAMs are known by telltale characteristics including a fancy shell for the camera, but inside is just a slimey blob of yucky stuff . . .
LOL!
I could be wrong, but my understanding was he basically turned and fired and shot everyone, starting with the folks there and then shot the backup when they arrived. There wasn't any "hunting" involved to my knowledge. He was a well trained shot, whether or not he had much hunting experience. His behavior seems particularly strange given he was a naturalized citizen and served in the Guard for several years. He was obviously acclimated and well familiar with America.
No we don't. And we'll never know. WHAT we do KNOW is that 5 Men and 1 Woman are dead, because this lunatic went over the edge.
Nothing can bring them back, including all your speculation that the situation was mishandled. I hope to HE!! that the families of the deceased are not reading this blather your are posting. They really don't need it. And those of us who didn't know them, but understand their lifestyles in our hearts are grieving for them as if they were our own.
You still haven't given an explaination of how you, who admittedly have never hunted the North Woods or understand their culture, can know better the situation than those who live there.
LOL! The way I figger, why insult 'em once when with a little effort you can insult 'em on multiple levels.
Amen, Granny!
Underground it is, on the road to Hell if you ask me.
Nope, not like that up here at all. We accept the responsibility for taking care of ourselves.
Thanks. Iowa's farmers appreciate your support.
You reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy don't want to see that.
Trust me on this.
The last person was sick for weeks. . .
Thank you.
