Christopher Reeve, Man of SteelFWIW
vanity | October 11, 2004 | self

Posted on 10/11/2004 2:06:13 AM PDT by Dr. Eckleburg

I preface this short vanity by saying I am pro-life, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell playing-God...

I have a friend who worked on Christopher Reeve's latest TV movie which Reeve just finished directing.

Movie sets are generally bedlam, filled with chaos, complaints, back-stabbing and petty irritations.

My friend said this production was different -- a life-changing experience for everyone involved with it.

The direction on the set was altered to accommodate Reeve's limitations which, according to my friend, were unimaginable. Reeve had to show up before dawn hours ahead of schedule in order to prepare for the rigors of production. He was constantly hooked up to machines. He could move nothing but his facial muscles. He was never alone, yet he was all alone.

Throughout the weeks, Reeve was steady, focused and serene. No one argued about craft services or late entrances or slow lighting. Everyone pitched in and did more than their share -- willingly, gratefully, aware of the tremendous effort Reeve was making and of his constant, unfathomable suffering.

My friend is not a particularly religious man, but he said he felt blessed and humbled to witness Christopher Reeve's profound courage and grace.

His pain is ended; he's strong and whole now. May God comfort those who loved him.

Line 2 is a violation of what I've come to think that you believe....My sense is that your theology says any individual's coming to faith has nothing to do with the circumstances in which they find themselves.

Park it for another day, Xzins. It's in poor taste for you to hijack yet another thread to argue theology. Besides, you'd be more honest to argue against what Dr E actually believes, rather than chastise E over what you think that E believes. I hope you're not planning on continuing this chastisement from your admitted position of ignorance. If you take up this pursuit again, you would do much better to begin from a position of truth and honesty, namely by finding out what E really believes.

A godo starting point would be to believe E's own words.

I'm in a conversation with Dr. E.

I don't recall needing your permission on what I discuss with her or with anyone.

Perhaps you don't realize that the two of us regularly discuss religion and politics interchangeably.

Give it a rest....she's a big girl and doesn't need you to save her. (In fact, she's more than capable of whacking many folks down with relative ease.)

Can't help admiring his attitude. His wife is a real peach. People have different weaknesses and strengths. Some are very capable, yet their life experiences, education or naivety cause them not to see that stem cell research from an aborted fetus encourages murder.

I fell sorry for his wife and the suffering he had. I hope God has mercy on his soul. Only God and CR know what was really in his heart or how badly his disability distorted his judgment.

Looks like JIM is letting this thread run. Thanks.

One of my co-workers, many years ago, was a divorced woman in her fifties(sixties?) who lived with and took care of her Alzheimers-suffering mom. BOTH women became heroes to me....

The mom (who I never met), because even in her affliction did not manifest bitterness or unbearable irritibility due to her condition. Her daughter told me she had habitually gentle and decent in her youth - and when the Alzheimers robbed her of her memories, those habits kept kicking in, helping her to trust and be kind to the "stranger" who took care of her....

And the daughter, whose life was voluntarely turned upside-down for a mom who could barely recognize her own daughter. I asked her once how she could pull it off with few (if ny) complaints, and her answer was "she gave me life and raised me with good morals - this is my way of paying her back".

Well Doc, after reading some of the comments etc. Henchman wan't his usua; heathen self, and glad of it. I am not judging CR, I would criticize him IF he were alive. So, I'll just drop off with one final reminder (If I remember my Latin):
Semper dicit bonum mortem - Always speak well of the dead.

Wake up, wideawake, and reread my post. Nowhere did I say Christians are responsible for liberal carticatures of us. It's the fake, phoney conservatives and Christians that go around wishing hell and death on people just because of their political views.

Frankly, I wish those phoneys would get the hell out of my religion and get the hell out of my party.

I'd rather see optimism and hope for the deceased than wish hell on them, which sadly some here get their rocks doing just that.

I never said that. You did. And comparing Mr. Reeve to Karl Marx or Jim Jones is despicable.

Sadly, 'despicable' has become the MO on these types of threads here at RepublicanUnderground.com

Anyone want to guess how long it will be until this thread is pulled? Come on people, we are Christians here right?

There are Christians and "Christians". Christians have compassion for the suffering and deceased, even when we disagree with them. Love thy enemy and all that.

"Christians" get aroused when they start thinking about "eternal damnation." Life's a big scorecard, and apparently "Christians" win when they can condemn a certain number of people to Hell.

It is NEVER appropriate to "wish hell on" anyone, at this point.

But it also ill serves the living to prop up false hopes.

Neither is a loving path.

Yeah, sure you do.

he was a saved man. Otherwise right now he is roasting in hell.

While I am against embryonic stem cell research, I can understand why, in this culture, a man could believe that using embryos is not morally wrong. I can doubly understand why a quadriplegic might think that way.

I disagreed with Reeve, but I forgive him for his ignorance on the matter. I doubt that his motives were "an evil agenda". Reeve is not much different than the hostage in Iraq begging Tony Blair to pay a ransom for him.

You should try walking in another man's shoes for awhile. And maybe learn a little forgiveness, like Jesus taught, and maybe start worrying more about yourself, instead of keeping a spiritual scorecard of who is bad and who is good.

I agree with him - it would reduce the murder of the unborn in this country from more than a million per year to less than a thousand,

Do I get to condemn you now? Because in my Church, there are no exceptions. By my Church's definition, you may just be as hellbound as Reeve.

Surely, you will disagree.

Hitler's dead too.

So damn pathetic it's not even funny. Well, actually it is.

Comparing Reeve to Hitler. Evidence of a smooth brain.

**

My mother always told me not to speak ill of the dead, but, sorry, his political activities turned me off. Courage maybe...grace probably not.

I think Mr.Reeve must have given a lot of comfort and inspiration to others living with spinal cord injuries. When all is said and done, he may have given back more this way then through acting. I imagine many of those Mr. Reeve touched were veterans.

Yeah, well, according to some conservatives, he voted Democrat so he's rotting in hell where he belongs. Scary huh.

"Oh, now Reeves is not only evil, but comparable to Uday and Qusay Hussein ??!!...How is it any better when many of you basically call for Reeve to burn in hell"

Nice distortion of my post, but anyone with an IQ above room temperature would suss that out.

Freepers have give their reasons why they feel respectively Chris Reeve shouldn't be lionized or martyred. If that's YOUR opinion, feel free to lionize all YOU want.

Now since FR is a f-o-r-u-m, people sound off and rant their unadulturated opinion.

If you don't LIKE those opinions, and then back up or justify your own opinion without your assinine half-baked hyperboles and assumptions.
