Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

I wrote the GOP and asked them to give Keyes a subject and have him give a speech.... Now they have another reason to do just that! Doesn't matter what the subject is, he will rally the troops! He motivates. He should speak on Stem Cell research....whatever, he needs to speak. He is the best.
What? We shouldn't run someone if they might lose?
Maybe, just maybe, Keyes will open some eyes and minds in Illinois and elsewhere.
Maybe, just maybe, he'll tie up a lot of Dem resources that could have been used elswhere.
Maybe, just maybe, he'll win.
Oh, i've read enough posts of yours on this thread to know you're NOT a republican despite your assertions to the contrary. Why would you support a democrat instead of a true-and-tried republican?
You're not a very bright kid, you jerk.
I have stated clearly that this will be a tough race, but that it is not an impossible race. Any thinking person who examines the facts will see that this is so, using simple common sense and the simple fact that Republicans have won many statewide races in IL.
But you state over and over and over and over that it is absolutely, categorically IMPOSSIBLE for him to win. And you provide nothing but your own opinion as proof.
Seems to me that it is you who should be posting numbers to back up your certitude.
I'm not sure of anything except that it is well worth fighting for this seat, win or lose.
Another Bozo with nothing intelligent to add to the conversation.
And I for one will certainly blame noone for whatever the outcome, but rather thank God for attending our concerns.
Oh,but I DO know what you know;or rather just how very little you know. You've exposed yourself,by your own words.
I am certainly in agreement with your prayers.
Well said.
I am not "terrified" of Keyes winning...we could really use that seat in GOP hands! Unfortunately, that is NOT to be.
You see this?
This is the very base of my argument on this issue.
This guy "knows me" from reading a few posts on this thread. This is the way the voters at large decide who gets their vote, and that's where all the things we political junkies love about Keyes, hurts him with the public at large.
The vast majority of voters make up their minds on issues based on sound bites and headlines, Alan Keyes is a seven thousand word Op Ed piece to Barack Obama's thirty second TV ad.
It doesn't really matter to me what the Democrats will claim. They say many things, and many things they say are false.
It does have everything to do with how he will win. He's slick and smooth, and has everyone in a strong delusion.
You're kidding,aren't you? LOL
Not that I'm familiar with, Luis.
But I should be able to come up with one of your rants about "Charles Lindberg was a Nazi" from that lunatic, left-wing, gay-activist "The Lindberg Kidnapping was a Hoax" conspiracy website you love to reference.
As if you cared about the possible demise of conservatism.
I've never seen you do anything but rail on conservatives and conservatism in the four years I've been here.
Go buy some clues, right after you buy somes manners.
Thank you oh so very much for agreeing in prayer!
Off topic:
Didn't you mention on that monster thread that if you were picking a candidate one of your top choice would be Steve Rauschenberger?
