Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

Yes, you did insult me and others last night (Yes, I was a McClintock voter). I was trying to kid with you in return. You took it worse than it was intended.
BTW, learn to paste quotes that you're responding to so we can tell what you are responding to. Your posts (like the ones last night) don't make a lot of sense without context.
Why don't you ignore me, too, hypocrite?
Fact one: The Grand Old Party has selected Dr. Alan Keyes as their choice to challenge Barack Obama. Nothing you say will change that.
Fact two: GOP chances of holding this seat are infinitely greater than they were before they made this bold move.
Fact three: All conservatives who care about restoring and preserving our free republic will do what they can to insure success, no matter how they feel about how this happened.
Fact four: You're making a complete fool of yourself.
But even at that, a race against no opponent is not as newsworthy as this race has just become.
We all suck it up when we have to, but this does not mean that we have to lie to ourselves in the process.
1) Jack Ryan and his ex-wife. 2) The convention speech.
That's called national coverage.
This race will become Obama's launch into the VP slot in 2008.
Obama was already on his way to a national ticket. Why are you pretending otherwise?
I love your confidence and your zeal.
May many more catch it.
Marines are the greatest!
Now, the race will become Obama defeating a conservative icon.
Unless Obama slept with Ryan's wife, that's s dead story, it's been dead in Florida for quite sometime.
While I truly believe that barring some skeletons jumping out of his closet, Obama may have been well on his way to a VP slot in the next election, I don't think buying him face time in primetime is a good idea.
Keyes has NEVER held an elected office.
Yes,Keyes IS a carpetbagger and it WILL be used againast him.
Jesse looked at Obama,at the Boston Convention, the way he looks at Sharpton...it's the IF LOOKS COULD KILL look. But of course Jesse is going to help Obama in this race. That doesn't mean that he's in Jesse's pocket...yet,if ever.
Have you ever worked on a campaign,in Ill.for a BIG election? I have...for Reagan,Bush the elder,and Thompson,to name but a few.Your enthusiasm is to be lauded,but facts outweigh that.
Will Chicago go for Keyes? NEVER! How about Evanston? WHEN PIGS FLY TO THE MOON WITH THEIR OWN WINGS! Skokie? I DOUBT IT. Champaign-Urbana? BEAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hillsdale,Glen Coe,Winnetka,Cicero?sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!
Soooooooooo, where will Keyes carry the vote? Brookfield,Oakbrook,a few towns downstate? WHERE?
It doesn't matter how Keyes got the nod. What's important is that he is a constitutionalist running for the U.S. Senate with the backing of the Illinois GOP instead of some RINO. Although Obama is certainly a rising star, he doesn't have it locked up yet. He went from being basically unopposed (since Ryan shot himself in the foot and Ditka wouldn't make the run), to facing a brilliant, passionate and articulate foe. This is a golden opportunity for the Land of Lincoln, and a great chance to add a real conservative to the Senate.
I'm not the problem here, talk to the guy from California calling the guy from Illinois names for opining on the way the GOP is doing things in Illinois.
Ditto, Tom :o)
This comes form a guy named Luis who used the F word in reference to me no less than four times in his last two e-mails to me. Quit being a hypocrite, Luis. If you don't want me to comment on your posts, then quit talking about me.
OUTSTANDING! GO ALAN GO!
Well said.
Would you like the posts CCPed,that you made to me last night...especially the ones wherein you said that you were just kidding around?
Your Reaganesqe confidence and optimism is exactly what is needed.
Great post.
