Maybe. But I haven't heard the president utter the word "abortion" once during this campaign. Given that this is one of Keyes signature issues, I'm not sure Bush will be so eager to campaign with him. We shall see.
Tom Coburn is an Oklahoman, and retired from Congress just a few years ago, so he's won elections in Oklahoma.
Contrary to what the children in here say, I do not support Obama, I am a broken glass Republican, and my loyalty to the GOP gives me the right to opine freely; I believe that this is a tactical mistake.
If I lived in Illinois, I would do whatever I could do to help Keyes defeat Obama, and I woud still think that this was a tactical mistake by the GOP.

At least there is now SOME hope of the President winning IL's 21 electoral votes. Before there was none.
The Keyes candidacy will definitely energize Republican voters and turnout. Can't hurt.

Well I am glad someone else has seen this. I was at both the Kerry and Bush shindigs in Grand Rapids Friday and Monday and neither candidate touch the abortion issue.
To tell you the truth, I wasn't surprised that Bush didn't say anything, but why did the democratic candidate stay mum on his Pro Choice stance?

He is a "rising star" among the socialist wing of black Illinois caucus and they recruited him to run against "tainted" Bobby Rush in 2000 AND HE RAN TO THE LEFT OF RUSH BUT FAILED TO WIN. Of course in 2004 they had less hopes in the primary but Obama pulled off an upset this time around and the socialists couldn't be happier and are marching in lockstep to elect him. Obama's fund-raising network is tied to hip of Rev. Jesse's "people".

So let me get this straight? The Keyes critics here don't think he's good enough campaign material because he lost two GENERAL elections in socialist Maryland, so they want to give it to a guy who lost two PRIMARY elections in Illinois and has never held ANY office? Yeah, that makes sense. First off, Oberweis may have millions but every polled showed he would have been crushed by Obama. Two, it's ridiculous to believe Oberweis would have won the nomination if Jack Ryan weren't a factor in the primary. Most of Ryan's support would have went to Raushenburger. Oberweis simply had the "anyone but Jack!" vote locked up. Third, "conservative" Jim Oberweis compared pro-life activists to the Taliban in 2002 and was completely silent on immigration in his last campaign, but decided it was the "no. #1 issue" in this campaign. Oberweis is conservative on whatever issue does well with primary voters in a pull poll. He would NOT unite the party's base.
Except for that whole Convention thingEy where pundits praised him for being "articulate".
Conservatives have complained for the last four years of obstructionism from the left. Now we have a chance to break the 60 vote stranglehold and get judges appointed.
I suggest anyone who's interested in the future welfare of this country suck it up and support this man by any means possible. I know I will.

Alan Keyes has yet to win one election.He's an outsider,whose own words are going to be played and replayed on every local channel as well as the national ones.And before you say that Hillary just swanned into N.Y.,yes,she did,but she also got Moynihan to "invite" her,publicly,to run for his seat.
You and others here are suffering under the wild delusion,that outside of Chicago,the rest of the state is filled with staunch Conservatives.This is NOT the case at all.Evanston,Hillsdale,Champaign-Urbana,Glen Coe,and many more areas are solidly Dem.
The South Side blacks,the elite blacks,and the "ethnics" are NOT going to go for Keyes.Those who have claimed that abortion will swing them to Alan,don't know what they're talking about.These people vote for Dems;they usually do.

If only that were true. Obama has raised money not only in communities, white and black, all over the city and suburbs, but has even gotten a pretty big chunk downstate. Unfortunately, the lack of a candidate all this time on the GOP side has allowed Obama to campaign in parts of the state that are not his natural constituency. (And he has kept on campaigning nonstop, despite the lack of competition.)
