Let the debates begin.
Former Presidential hopeful Dr. Alan Keyes has told Illinois Republicans that he would accept their request to take on Democrat Barack Obama in the US Senate race.
Members of the Republican State Central Committee insisted that the former radio and television commentator make the promise to run before they would give him the nod Wednesday night, sources told the Chicago Sun Times on Thursday.
The Republicans were leery of voting to give Keyes the nomination without some guarantees.
So he went back into the room and bascially said, 'If you offer, than I will accept.'
Another GOP source said that Keyes had agreed to accept the nomination but told the committee that he wanted to wait until he could publicly announce it at a 'campaign style' rally on Sunday.
'He told them that he would do it,' the source said. 'he just wanted to take a few days to put things together and make his announcement.'

Of course it will. You all are showing the model.
And it will be just as effective at persuading anyone as your arguments are here...ie not effective at all.
The charge just doesn't stick at the senatorial or presidential level.
The race will be about the relative stature, call it senatorial presence, of the two candidates.
That is a comparison that will serve Alan well.
Obama has a name ID that is just horrible. And he is a full decade younger than Keyes.
Age and seasoning are critical components of success in Senate races at both the national and the state level.
That's a simple fact.
Oh yeah, you live in CALIFORNIA and are getting behind Keyes. LOL
Nobody here is saying that they won't vote for him, they're stating hard, cold facts of the race. That in no way means that they support Obama. But you refuse to admit that.Instead, you post your childish insults. How does THAT help?
But the people in this state have a bad taste for Ryan's - starting with the last governor of that name. Moral turpitude of an elected Republican official will keep social conservatives home for years. And when the GOP keeps running people of the same name and people with other moral "issues" it brings all the past forward and it snowballs.
Keyes is clean, is not a "Ryan" and is truly a social conservative. The people who elected Fitzgerald can still be inspired to vote - but it'll take a lot of work.
In less than 100 days.
I would say at this point you're the one with the insults. See above: "childish"
Rah, Rah.
Who the hell are you to tell me what I am or what I am not?
Three whole days in FR and you KNOW me?
You still don't understand much of anything at all, which you posts keep proving.
If you want to debate this, use facts,or at least opinions based on facts.
What do you think of him? Paul Harvey said he was wonderful.
Please tell me you don't think the above sentence is witty.
Hint: Campaign finance laws allow me to "get behind" Keyes even though I'm from California. You seriously didn't know that???
I certainly believe Keyes was the best debater in that campaign. However, if he ever has a point of disagreement with Cheney - that's a debate I'd like to see. LOL!
The problem is that the same people in here rah-rahing about Keyes's certain victory, will turn around and place the blame for the loss on the GOP.
If they can't see just what an impossible task Keyes has ahead of him now, they will never accept the fact that the defeat came about for any reason other than the National GOP "turned" on Keyes.
You watch.
Insults???
Question: Are you against Keyes because he's...black?
Attaboy Luis!!! Show him what you're REALLY like!!!
Nope.
And his words about Hillary are going to come back and bite him on the butt!
He handled the comments he made in the past in a way that all reasonable people should admire. He confronted them directly, and openly admitted the struggle they have caused him to have in his own heart and mind.
Refreshing candor, IMO.
I laugh at the spectacle of the very same folks who have excoriated this man in the past for his supposed lack of what they call 'pragmatism'. When he demonstrates some, and openly admits the conflicts that that creates, they take that opportunity to scourge him some more.
And,last fall, there were so many Obama signs all over Chicago and many suburbs, that that too is disturbing. Those signs have only proliferated, now. They're worse than a pair of breeding rabbits.
It seems to me that plenty of FReepers outside of California were telling that state how to run it's local politics. Why should Illinois be off limits?
That figures;I am not surprised.
That has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether he'll win or not.
(snicker)......there is something downright incestuous about one fowl feasting on another!
How ya been?
