Threatening Osama Tape Reposted Monday on Radical Islamic Web Site
A tape of Osama bin Laden that first aired in August 2003 has just been re released on an internet site routinely used by radical Islamic groups.
While it is yet uncertain why bin Laden's group or al Qaeda sympathizers have chosen to re air the 31 minute tape (and provide a subtitled English translation), bin Laden does make what could be seen as an ominous threat against the new Iraqi governing body.
He says, "Islam is the reign of Allah and the assemblies of legislative representatives is the religion of pre-Islamic ignorance ... The one who steps back from the jihad that is individually obligatory is an evildoer according to the rulers of our Islamic Shariah."
Continuing on, bin Laden threatens "Anyone who cooperates with (the Americans) or whatever follows on from that regardless of names or titles ... and under the title of the ‘Interim Government,' then he is a disbeliever and apostate whose blood is to be shed and it is obligatory to kill him."
Bin Laden adds, "It is not unknown that any government created by America is a treacherous puppet regime like the rest of the governments in the region."
The recording addresses both Americans, and Muslims living in Iraq. Speaking to Americans bin Laden said, "People of America, some people had held you in high esteem in the past, however now the majority of you have been exposed as a wretched people who have no part in noble conduct."
He continues, "You vote for the most corrupt among you whose lives have increased and whose manners have decreased. Your wealthiest and most powerful in media treat you like their slaves, especially the Jews who manipulate you from behind them."
Bin Laden then launches into a diatribe on President George W. Bush. "Bush came with him and his gang, the people of extravagant shoes and cold hearts who are a great harm upon the blood, wealth, environment and moral conduct upon the whole of mankind."
Just before bin Laden finishes speaking he implores Allah to "take the forelocks of the youth of Islam for jihad in your sake ... make their shooting accurate and unite their hearts."

The page where the tape could be downloaded was captioned, "Statement from the Mujahid Sheikh Ossama Bin Laden to the American and to the Muslims in Iraq on the occasion of the aggression against Iraq ... August 2003."
On the same page under a logo for Global Islamic Media or GIM (which has operated in the past for some time as a flourishing Yahoo group) was the caption, "This nation will get sick but never die and will get doze but never sleep so do not lose your hope. You will return your glory. And if you return we will return."
In addition to posting messages from bin Laden, beheadings of innocent victims by Islamic militants have been shown on the free web site pages of www.hostinganime.com
Citing free speech (and now backed up by a court victory in another case), the operators of Hosting Anime continue to make available at

the gruesome beheading video and still pictures of 33-year-old South Korean translator Kim Sun-Il.
Hosting Anime also hosts a number of other terror related sites. They include:

Commenting on the company's apparent hosting of these sites, a Hosting Anime company official commented on a company forum site; http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176
In that forum, Hosting Anime was asked on June 18, "Did you know your services are being used as the official web page for the group that beheaded the American in Saudi? I would hope your company is smart to remove this site from your database."
A Hosting Anime official initially thanked the individual for bringing fact that to his attention.
However, when the site remained on line, another letter was written to Hosting Anime, (sic) "This is ... pathetic. Delete it already. Block the freaking IP address. QUIT ALLOWING TERRORIST WEBSITES TO BE HOSTED ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR DAYS BEFORE YOU GET RID OF THEM. Block this IP, find all other ones, block them. You are American? Quit letting them spread their message unless you agree with what they do."
He received this response ( http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176 ) from Hosting Anime.
"We will look into this manner when we have time, this is a free hosting company, and there are no profits being made, so that we can afford to sit and review all emails/abuse reports as this takes a large amount of time. Please give us time to get that done, in the mean time, please take the first amendment into consideration, free speech, just because you don't like the content of a site does that mean it should be shutdown?
"An email sent to me this morning I think is worth posting on the subject:
"‘Hey, screw those people that didn't like the site. They didn't have to go there to begin with, and whoever accused you of supporting terrorism has totally lost it. What about us who want to know why these people think the way they do and act the way they do ??? It's about communicating and I think it SUCKS that you cave to a few that would rather just throw a blanket over their head's and hope when they lift it off themselves, everything will be just fine. It makes me SICK !!'
"As stated, we will take a look into this site and see what can be done in good time."
In response to a further complaint, the Hosting Anime System Administrator wrote, ( http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176 ),
"Thank you for your additional comments on this matter, nothing can be done at this time, we will review the site and decide what is best.
"If you have looked at some of our users web pages, you will see that there are no banners/pop ups on our users pages, that means no income. If you don't want me to use that excuse, what excuse would you like to hear? It's either I lie to you or tell you the truth, I have told you the truth, if you don't accept that, feel free to imagine whatever you would like."
Hosting Anime appears to host its terror sites by renting space on the servers of the Houston based Everyone's Internet, which has hosted sites in the past for groups such as the Hamas.

Ashcroft: Berger 9/11 Docs Reveal Clinton Security Lapse

A sensitive after action report on the foiled Millennium bomb plot, portions of which were allegedly pilfered by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, sounded the alarm that al Qaida operatives had entered the U.S. and were preparing to strike.
In testimony before the 9/11 Commission in April, Attorney General John Ashcroft detailed the highly classified March 2000 document, saying it contained a set of sweeping recommendations on how to combat the al Qaida threat that were completely ignored by the Clinton White House.
"The NSC's Millennium After Action Review declares that the United States barely missed major terrorist attacks in 1999 -- with luck playing a major role," Ashcroft told the Commission.
"Among the many vulnerabilities in homeland defenses identified, the Justice Department's surveillance and FISA operations were specifically criticized for their glaring weaknesses."
"It is clear from the review," declared Ashcroft, "that actions taken in the Millennium Period should not be the operating model for the U.S. government."
The Millennium plot review warned the Clinton administration "of a substantial al Qaida network and affiliated foreign terrorist presence within the U.S., capable of supporting additional terrorist attacks here," the Bush attorney general said.
"Furthermore, fully seventeen months before the September 11 attacks, the review recommends disrupting the al Qaida network and terrorist presence here using immigration violations, minor criminal infractions, and tougher visa and border controls," he explained.
Ashcroft's comments suggested why a former Clinton national security official might not want the information contained in the Millennium review to ever see the light of day.
"Despite the warnings and the clear vulnerabilities identified by the NSC in 2000," he told the Commission, "no new disruption strategy to attack the al Qaida network within the United States was deployed. It was ignored in the Department's five-year counterterrorism strategy."

Is the house fire thought to be terrorist related?
I read your thread on fire from post #581 here, the thought has
been with me, that we could have a shortage of firemen, it would seem that many of the men would be in Iraq, with all the call ups in the National Guard, etc.
Can we fight another major fire season, if it is as bad as the last year?
Ok, so granny is a worry wart, but for almost 30 years San Diego County was my home.

Yep, that's the one. IIRC, the guard was being questioned for possibly "shooting himself". No gun found at the scene though.
