Probably because I'm now halfway through the Left behind series of books (Christian fiction) but I think you've just described a good start to seven years of Tribulation. Especially if you're suggesting this may all come to pass, again.
I don't know.
Israeli army warns of strike against Syria
Tuesday 20 July 2004 5:56 PM GMT
Tensions have been running high on the Israel-Lebanon border
As the conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border escalates, the Israeli military has issued a blunt warning that it may launch a direct attack against Syria.
The chief of the northern areas of the Israeli army, General Bini Gants has accused Syria and Iran of arming the Lebanese Hizb Allah movement, which he described as "terrorist".(snip)

I have to agree, a nuke will only wipe out an area, it can
be drawn on a map.
Smallpox or other disease, will spread over the country and indeed the world.

New Bagle Spreads Fast By Shutting Down Defenses
The latest version of the mass-mailing worm aims to shut down a computer's anti-virus and firewall systems, leaving the machine open to further attacks.

That was nothing compared to the story last year about a school in the D.C. area where they not only had to clean mercury from the school but some students homes and businesses as well. They had to put entire families in motel rooms for several days. The cost was in the millions. Here's a link to that nightmare: Gaps Marked Response to Mercury Spill
We really should not be upset over this SockGate scandal at all because National Public Radio strongly assured everyone this afternoon that sandy burglar swore it was an honest mistake. Yup. They were inside his mind and body while he was innocently adding to his girth with paper...Vomit.
I wish they would do it and do it soon. First Syria, then Iran.
Is there anyone here who subscribes to NEIN who wants to FreepMail me and others who are interested about the nuke scare that was purportedly averted? FreepMail, please...
Terror analysis is sure quick, huh?
Authorities: New York City Subway Blast Not Terrorist Related
VOA News 20 Jul 2004, 19:02 UTC
New York City authorities say a small pipe bomb that exploded in the busy Times Square subway station Monday night was not related to terrorism.
Police sealed off parts of the area after the explosion, and several subway lines were forced to bypass Times Square, which is one of New York's major tourist attractions.
The bomb was placed in a backpack and left in a staircase, where it initially caught fire. An off-duty policeman spotted the bag and was about to call for backup when it exploded.
The officer suffered minor injuries to his leg and some ringing in his ears. No other injuries were reported.
So far, no arrests have been made.

Israeli Warplanes Fly over Beirut VOA News
20 Jul 2004 12:24 UTC
Israeli warplanes have flown over the Lebanese capital, following a day of clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah guerrillas inside south Lebanon.
Witnesses and security officials say Israeli warplanes flew at low altitudes breaking the sound barrier over Beirut. The Lebanese army responded with anti-aircraft fire at the jets.
Earlier Tuesday, Israeli helicopter gunships and artillery traded fire with Hezbollah guerrillas near the Lebanese border town of Eita al-Shaab. Two Israeli soldiers and a Hezbollah fighter were killed. Each side blamed the other for provoking the fighting.
The clashes come a day after a senior Hezbollah militant was killed in a Beirut car bombing that Hezbollah and Lebanese President Emile Lahoud blamed on Israel. Israel denied involvement in the killing.

Unless we know what we're talking about, in quantitative terms, any analysis of a generic "dirty bomb" (who has a clean one, anyway) is mostly speculation.
Before it even happened, they had that "no terrorism" statement prepared! I notice that the bomb was in a backpack, according to the article you posted. I heard yesterday that it was in a bag. Hmmmm. We received an FBI warning about IEDs in backpacks recently.
It would be interesting to see how many of those houses, clothes, cars etc. that were tested showed mercury to be a significant threat. I'll bet it was pretty small.
Many Home heating theromstats use mecury as part of a Switch. Mecury is conductive. and it rolls like ball but is liquid. More dense than water though.
I like your plan! And once we have all the dems and libs there on the island, we can send a Davey Crockett with a nuclear tip their way.
BTW, poor Elian. I will never ever forget that cute little tyke and the injustice that the clintgoons and reno did to him. I guess he is in the Cuban military now with no other life awaiting him. At least not the kind of life he would have enjoyed here in the U.S. It is truly one of the biggest travesties of the terrible years that were forced on us from 1992-2000.
Did you see this one that Honestly found?
