Former President Bill Clinton's official portrait is to be unveiled and hung in the White House in a ceremony Monday, according to Smithsonian officials and a close Clinton friend.
The White House is coordinating the event and invited members of Clinton's staff Wednesday, including the head of Clinton's nonprofit foundation, Skip Rutherford.
Clinton spokesman Jim Kennedy declined to confirm the former president's schedule after Friday, but Rutherford said Clinton would attend the customary unveiling ceremony.
Also, the Smithsonian confirmed that Carolyn Carr, the curator of its National Portrait Gallery, would attend the ceremony.
The White House did not return calls seeking comment. Neither Rutherford nor National Portrait Gallery spokeswoman Anne Christiansen knew any details about the painting, the artist or where the portrait will be permanently displayed.
Christiansen said the White House and the National Portrait Gallery contain separate but equally official collections of painted portraits.
She said Nelson Shanks, best known for his portrait of the late Princess Diana, was working on a painting of Clinton for the Smithsonian collection, which now contains a bust and photograph of the former Arkansas governor.
Clinton also attended the last presidential portrait unveiling in the White House, held July 17, 1995, outside the East Room in the Grand Foyer for former President George H.W. Bush.
At that ceremony, Clinton sized up the painting and turned to his predecessor and said: "President Bush, if I look half as good as you do when I leave office, I'll be a happy man."

From the chest up, I presume...
Is there a sink in the picture?
Better call security to lock up all the valuables, and make sure the computer keyboards are put away. Or better yet, tie klintoons hands together so he can't touch anything!
Cheers!
Leave out " 's official portrait" in the first line and we have a good sentence.

announcement timed to interfere with Reagan's funeral.
A dollop of The Sink Emporer's jizzim -- preserved off the rug in the oval office -- would've served the same purpose.
I mean.
...if *remembering's* the idea.
