Let Us Unite Behind President Bush ( A Plea Message to all Freepers)
FE/2/04 | JVERITAS

Posted on 02/02/2004 1:48:11 PM PST by jveritas

Dear Freepers

In this crucial election year, we are seeing that some conservatives are irresponsibly attacking President Bush in very aggressive way. By doing so, they are helping the Democrats and this is not acceptable at all. In this crucial time of our history, where we are fighting the war on terror, it is extremely important that we stay firmly united behind President Bush. We simply cannot afford as a nation to have a Democrat in the White House, it will be a disaster for America. Thus, I would like to ask you my friends who love President Bush and want to see him re-elected to stop attacking him and think about the big picture. Also, I would like to ask you to personally send e-mails to any conservative journalist, radio host, or TV host who is attacking President Bush or harshly criticizing him and ask them not to do so. I already e-mailed Mr. Joe Scarborough from MSNBC asking him to stop attacking President Bush as he has been doing lately. I send an e-mail to Mr. Bob Novak asking him to tell the truth about the ultra left liberal John Kerry rather than put down President Bush as he did in his latest articles. I sent an e-mail to NewsMax asking them to retrieve my name from their e-mail news alert list because I disagree with the way they are attacking President Bush lately. Any article posted on Free Republic and that is bashing President Bush for not being “conservative enough” should not get any traction or responses. If we do not respond to them, then they will eventually stop posting such irresponsible articles. We must work hard in toning down the rhetoric of some of our conservative friends. We love them very much, we respect them very much, but their anger is hurting us all in this crucial election year. Please let us do so, for the sake of this great nation.

Sincerely yours; JVERITAS

And you see the "my way or the highway" disrupting crowd helps the discourse how?

They're a useful tool for the "lockstep or the highway" crowd to see that their soap isn't selling.

99% of the voters will never think that they owe politicians their votes, no matter how much you or anyone else hopes or believes otherwise.

I think you misunderstand us. I'm not saying I or anyone owes a politician our votes.

I'm saying I owe it to my country to vote for the best person, even if that person isn't perfect. Even if that person only gives me half of a third of what I want, I owe it to my country to do the very best I can for it.

It has nothing to do with Bush, really. It's simply that he is better for America than any Democrat.

What I said was some voters couldn't seem to look at the whole picture .. voters choose to go to a little man with big ears and charts and others voted for Clinton ... all because they wanted to send a message

The "Whole Picture" is that not all voters are going to look at it that way.

Ever.

There will always be voters who are willing to "send a message."

And their votes count just as much as yours and mine.

But to vote for a Dem or to sit out in hope that a Dem will get elected after all we know and all we have been through with them in charge ... is suicide

There are many methods of suicide.

Another is to ignore constituencies within a coalition, and then try and insult them back into the fold when they make to move their tents.

What was President Bush's original position on authorizing Concurrent Receipt for disabled veterans?

And there are plenty of people on this very site advocating not just withholding their vote, but working to replace him.

Replace him with a Democrat? You mean explicit advocacy of the election of the Democrat candidate as preferable to Bush? That's something I have yet to see, although I don't read every post on this forum. But I have seen plenty of people accuse others who indicate disenchantment with Bush of "working to replace him." And when you make a whole group of people who consider themselves conservatives, who are registered Republicans, and who voted for Bush in 2000 into people "working to replace Bush" by virtue of their heartfelt criticism of him, I respectfully submit that you may indirectly be doing as much "to replace Bush" as the people you're accusing.

And it's ok that they insults us????

The way I see it is .. we do see their points and we are not trying to ignore those issues

But they refuse to see our point and want us to just bend over a take it

Been there done that with Clinton

I think you misunderstand us. I'm not saying I or anyone owes a politician our votes.

Yes you did, at #106:

"I think the lesson of 92 is that conservatives work as hard as they can for the things they believe in, let their leaders know when they are disappointed, and then cast their vote for the person who will do the most to protect their country.

But they never, ever vote for the worst choice to "send a message."

When voters perceive, rightly or wrongly, that their votes don't matter, they will send messages.

That's the lesson of 1992, and to not learn that lesson is to assume that politicians are owed our votes.

I'm saying I owe it to my country to vote for the best person, even if that person isn't perfect. Even if that person only gives me half of a third of what I want, I owe it to my country to do the very best I can for it.

It has nothing to do with Bush, really. It's simply that he is better for America than any Democrat.

And I'm saying it doesn't matter what you think you owe the country, as admirable as that may be, because other people are going to cast ballots just as valuable as yours with completely different motivations or understandings.

We need a lot of voters like that to be victorious in November.

..."lockstep or the highway" crowd....

I support the reelection of George W. Bush 100%.

I trust his judgment, knowing that he has more of the facts at his disposal than do I. (That includes the immigration proposal that has at least put the issue on the table. It's still just a proposal, but it's opened the issue to where Democrats can't now do any quick "blanket amnesty/register 'em all as Democrats" shenanigans. I've observed W play enough chess moves during this administration to trust that he'll take this one to its best course to get a handle on the situation now so that we can close the borders. W has demonstrated that he has our nation's best sovereign interests in mind when it comes to our national security.)

I believe that anyone who has respect for our military should support the reelection of President George W. Bush.

I believe that anyonw who has a respect for all life should support the reelection of President George W. Bush.

I believe that anyone who cares about who will be on our courts should support the reelection of President George W. Bush.

I believe that anyone who thinks individuals can make better decisions about how to spend the money they earn than can government should support the reelection of President George W. Bush.

I could list more reasons, but if that makes me one of the "lockstep" crowd that you describe, so be it. Government overspending did not begin on W's watch. We have years and years of Democratic control to reverse. And, right now, we're a nation at war, which means additional expense.

I may not agree with every decision W has made, but thus far I'm more than impressed in how he's leading our country.

Plus, I cannot say this often enough: I trust him, and I find that refreshing!

Thank you. I trust your original source was viable (I really do).

The link you gave interestingly enough pointed to another topic I asked about in post #145 regarding Concurrent Receipt for disabled veterans.

FYI: George Bush initially fought very hard from authorizing it.

But you called it to everyone's attention by re-posting it. If you have nothing more to say on the matter, fine. You have my views, and I guess I have Jim Robinson's now.

conservatives are irresponsibly attacking President Bush

Number one, we're not being irresponsible...you are. You condone and assist Bush into thinking his unConservative policies are acceptable when they're not.

Instead of attacking anyone who questions these socialist, big spending policies, why not give an argument that supports your case. I'm still waiting for that to happen and frankly, the only conclusion I can come to is that his actions are indefensible.

I agree with swarthyguy..."Criticising policies is not bashing."

Until Bush changes his direction and decides to become Conservative once again, there is no way I will vote for him.

Those on the other side can call me all the names they want. Personally, it doesn't bother me to be called a Bush-bot - though being called a sheeple tends to make me forevermore disregard the person who said it.

What bothers me is the sophmoric insulting of President Bush. In the past few days, it has reached a fever pitch. I'm very tired of Bush Boy, Junior, Commandant Bush, yada, yada, yada.
Then there are the truly imaginative posters, as the one who referred to him as "a teaspoon of feces in a cup full of pudding."

I know you don't engage in this, Sabertooth. But do you see how difficult it is to take the namecallers seriously?

I've lurked enough on both LP and DU to be used to insults to President Bush. But I hate seeing exact same terms here.

Discussing issues is one thing, and a completely necessary thing at that.
But the namecalling of GWB is too evocative of those other sites. Freepers are capable of intelligent argument - that isn't what we're getting.
