Gardener's Prayer
by Karel Capek
O Lord, grant that in some way
it may rain every day,
Say from about midnight until three o'clock
in the morning,
But, You see, it must be gentle and warm
so that it can soak in;
Grant that at the same time it would not rain on
campion, alyssum, helianthus, lavendar, and others which
You in Your infinite wisdom know
are drought-loving plants-
I will write their names on a bit of paper
if you like-
And grant that the sun may shine
the whole day long,
But not everywhere (not, for instance, on the
gentian, plantain lily, and rhododendron)
and not too much;
That there may be plenty of dew and little wind,
enough worms, no lice and snails, or mildew,
and that once a week thin liquid manure and guano
may fall from heaven.
Amen.

Highland Brose
This makes a hefty, rousing breakfast for those spending the day out of doors working or shooting. It is also recommended nourishment for those contemplating tossing the caber.
Serves 1
Medium oatmeal - 40g (1½ oz)
Boiling water
Salt - ½ tsp
Double cream - 2 tbsp
Honey - 1 tbsp
Whisky - generous shot
METHOD
Put the oatmeal in a dish and pour on enough boiling water to make a soupy porridge. Add a pinch of salt.
Make a well in the centre and pour in the cream, honey and whisky.
To eat, take first a spoon of porridge, then a spoon of the cream mixture.

Good morning and Happy FRiday, all! I wrote this way back in 1977 after learning that a former High School classmate had taken his own life:
Did You Really Try?
Your most precious
possession,
unpredictable,
like a wind-tossed
kite.
What gave you the
right
to throw it away
like yesterdays
dreams?
No one heard your
screams.
Did you really try?
Not all that we
have now,
all keepsakes,
are useful every
moment.
It will be sorely missed,
wont it?
Now that youve done
away with it for
good.
Did you really think you
should?
Did you really try?
You thought you had it
figured out
so thoroughly.
No more secrets to
discover.
No more need for friends
and lovers.
So you discarded it
like yesterdays
garbage.
A soul that was
ravaged.
Did you really try?
Your most precious
possession,
unpredictable.
No one can give it
back.
You chose this as your final
act
to make us all feel sorry.
So what if we
do?
We go on, but not
you.
You didnt really try.

Good morning! I'll leave the poetry &
prose to those who do it best, and post a
pretty picture - 'cause it's what I do best.
