In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

fatuous \FACH-oo-us\, adjective:
fatuousness; noun
fatuously; adverb

1. Feeble in mind; weak; silly; stupid; foolish.
2. Without reality; illusory
3. Vacuously, smugly, and unconsciously foolish
4. Delusive; unreal.

"Publishers persist in the fatuous belief that a little hocus-pocus in the front flap blurb will so dazzle readers that they'll be too dazed to notice the quality of what's on the pages inside." Irish Times, October 7, 1997

Etymology: [Latin fatuus, foolish, idiotic, silly..]

Oh, she chewed the it clear through - now I can't use my radio until I replace it.

i swear I'm going to be ready for the loony bin before this day is out - between the kid and the dogs - none of which know how to get along properly.

Hmmmmm-PC for "pimp? How about "Vendor of female charms"? "Purveyor of Pleasure"? Anybody else want to have a go at that one?

Maybe they are only in the downtown area-you don't see them anywhere else in SA, either, and certainly not out hhere in mid-nowhere.

They owned a racing team. They were obscenely(sp?) rich. They also each (mother, father, and 20something son) had a white SUV. One trimmed in gold, one silver, and the other black maybe? They each also had a sports car. The oddest part was that if you saw them in the store or something, you would never guess they were that rich because they dressed like white trash.

At least the Physics prof didn't ask us (yet!!!!) to calc the Coreolis effect of his rotational movement as he goes down the side.

(If a coquette were sitting on the igloo on a a commando Friday, would she slide at all? Or would the croquettes just lap it up on the weigh down?)

Precisely the feeling I love so much. Same relationship between tach and gas gauge that keeps it in the driveway most of the time. No dingo balls or fender well lights, either. The sound of the engine coming out of those dual exhausts is one of the better ones I've heard, too-we've gotten lots of compliments on it. Hubby worked on that engine till it was just the way he wanted-it took weeks. We have chrome headers in the garage for it, if we could ever get the time to put them on.

I like your picks for the most part. I think I have to go with:

New England, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Kansas City
Philly, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and St. Louis

For the Super Bowl I have Tampa Bay beating Pittsburgh

Smart girl-she did know what to do.

You mean try to convince me she burned herself on the stove??? while in my bedroom???

My first reaction was the fan had shorted out - I remember that happening in my bedroom when I was a kid (we had no A/C) - but if she didn't tell me about fire, I know the dogs would have!!!

I couldn't figure out what she could have burned herself on or with, bcause we don't keep matches or lighters in our room.

Sounds good, but is it un-PC because it has the word "whore" in it?

No, I don't think many flesh vendors would be plying their trade in that area, unless they just wanted to get busted.

Coreolis effect on eskimo sitting atop igloo sliding down the side, cannot occur because when he farts (because of all that fish in his diet) the igloo melts.

and i'd feel right sorry fer the coquette!

"Oh, she chewed the it clear through - "

I had a dog once that chewed through all the wires connecting my pc and hubby's pc to everything else while we were out of the apartment. The hubby wouldn't allow the dog to live with us anymore after that. She got a great home though and I still see her sometimes. Of course, the lady who now owns her (along with another doxie) has chew marks on everything she owns. She's use to it though I guess since she's owned/bred doxies for 20yrs.

She was trying to do something by taking the cord away from the dog-she just didn't anticipate the consequences.
