I'm sure you are, and have every right to be.

There was no question of my balking at taking public transportation when I went to HS. My mother's attitude was, "if that's where you want to go, figure out how you're going to get there, I'm not taking you"

There was a girl' HS in the neighborhood, but I didn't want to go there.

Now, if they would just have a few more days in a row of school I would be happy.

Because of the flooding yesterday afternoon and over night they closed the schools this morning. shot my plans for the day. doesn't look good applying for a job, toting a 5yo with you.

school cancellations are a drag. this year we will not be following the same policy, 2 will be considered to be following fairfax co. cancellation policy and one will follow Montgomery co. We will also likely have 3 diff vacation and holiday scvhedules!

I don't envy you.

I was just really annoyed at the local TV station. The forecast called for more flooding overnight and fog this morning. I put the news on at 5:30. The first I heard them mention it was 7:30 - after a passing driver had told hubby (who was waiting for the bus with her) that school was closed. I then saw it on their website and then they mentioned on the newscast.

Oh, good grief! The local TV channels here are really very good at broadcasting school closings as soon as they receive them-usually by 6 AM.

Probably what happened was that it slipped their radar, because it was the only school district in their entire coverage area.

But I know now to check their website earlier than I did this morning!!!!

Considering we live in pretty flat terrain, we actually live on a high point. From what we caught on the news last night, and hubby heard when he went to the store - we were lucky. The highway was shut down in the vicinity of the elementary school about 30 minutes after Jax got home from school.

Had I got her into the other one and kept her in the after school program at her preschool - I would not have been able to get to her to pick her up - the roads in that entire town was flooded, as was the road I would take to get to her.

Fatuous soul that I am, I just had to provide this story for all you Illmatic fans out there.

You know, I used to think that Fairfax, California was the most seriously deranged spot on the planet, but I have to admit, those North Koreans have them beat in a landslide.

Wow, you were lucky! Sometimes things just work out for the best. Our road is impassable at two points after even a short heavy rainfall without a truck with 4 wheel drive. I was sweating yesterday as I got poured on in hubby's El Camino all the way from the county line to within 3 miles of home. Fortunately, the water had already stopped rushing and dropped to less than an inch in both the low water crossings, so I didn't have to turn around and wait for it to go down. Interestingly enough, the rain chance for this area yesterday, according to Weather Underground was only 30%.....
