~The Dragon Flies Lair~

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guides
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I should have warned you Trikebuilder is fantastic at romantic poetry.

LOL. No kidding. It was getting warm in here!

Beautiful writing Trike, but I'll bet you knew that.

Ha! It's a good thing I'm trying to stick with the 5/7/5 rule of haiku and nothing else. As wordy as I get it keeps me in check or I would go on and on and it would end up being a love letter rather than poetry.

I'll branch out to free form when I can control the amount of dribble I write. This haiku effort is teaching me to keep it short. I'm learning. ;)

btw-thank you for the compliment, but what do we know. LOL.

I wrote back in 93. The surfer is an Alabama district judge who I and several friends were having drinks with when a lawyer who was in AA and fell off the wagon drove his brand new Mazda 929 through the brick wall at the front of the bar.

Catch a Wave

The antique armoire caught his eye,
He went to take a look.
He bent to take a glance inside,
Then things began to cook.
The wall exploded like a bomb,
Debris went everywhere.
I know that I was caught off guard,
And frozen in my chair.
He rode the wave of moving wall,
The armoire was his board.
I’m sure that as the wave did crest,
He thought he’d join the Lord.
But he was lucky on this night,
And soon he will be fine.
Yes that’s the way it happened when,
Bill fought the 929.

That's good.

Thnaks for providing the background to the poem.

I envy your talent of writing poetry based on events in your life. I have a hard enough time trying to describe things in a conversation.

The Soul of the Sea

A wind comes in from the sea,
And rolls through the hollow dark
Like loud, tempestuous waters.
As the swift recurrent tide,
It pours adown the sky,
And rears at the cliffs of night
Uppiled against the vast.

Like the soul of the sea—
Hungry, unsatisfied
With ravin of shores and of ships—
Come forth on the land to seek
New prey of tideless coasts,
It raves, made hoarse with desire,
And the sounds of the night are dumb
With the sound of its passing.

Clark Ashton Smith

I didn't do it!
angry stomping madman
flaming marshmallow

I deny burning marshmallows, or setting anyone else's marshmallows ablaze.

I don't, I love to stick marshmallows into a campfire and watch them blaze away.

Well, yes.
But then someone might get offended and enact marshmallow rights to free speech.
And then we'd be sunk.
(Why not, someone once got offended by 'baby ruth' candybars and 'zagnuts'.)

It needed background to make sense outside the group that was there. I was sitting with my back to the area of impact but had looked around just before the car came through the wall. I threw myself between the flying debris and my financee to shield her (I said I froze in the poem). As soon as the dust settled I climbed over the pile and tapped on the window of the still running car. He powered the window down, I reached in and turned off the ignition. Then started looking for Bill who was clean across the room under what seconds before was a beautiful piece of furniture. Among that crowd I am considered a man of composure in chaos. Thanks for your kind words.

Yes.
We'll just have to flash-fry the marshmallows to make sure they get the message that we won't be cowed.
(If one hooks a high flow fan to a BBQ grill, and uses pressurize alcohol as fuel, you get a NICE blast furnace..)

I dug out my old hand-written stuff from three years ago:

Comatose

*Heart monitor beeping, respirator hiss, fade in*

I wander under the Shadows
seperated from the Light
Drifting memories on
a wispy dreamscape sky
I'm haunted by visions of
her gently smiling
Face
Days and days we say
"We see no change"
drifting in the haze
of a moth's tranquility
but it's lost inside of me
Existence jealousy
Further down the path unstoppable
a passenger inside the mind
Things to see are so unreal
But the things I want are
Far behind
Days and days we say
"We see no change"
drifting in the haze
of a moth's tranquility
but it's lost inside of me
Existence jealousy
Like a mouse inside a maze
wandering and dazed
an amatuer's preamble to
a pointless chain of thought
I'm haunted by a vision
of a door to my cage

*Heart monitor beeping, respirator hiss, fade out*
