~The Dragon Flies Lair~
Poets | August 27, 2003 | bentfeather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guides
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

That's very good. Your family is certainly talented.

Maybe you just have to try harder. I just started, lol. I think SAM is just humoring me. ;)

I just go for the 5, 7, 5 part of the rules, don't care about any other rules. LOL!

I was inspired by the poem/song
my brother posted back at #433.
Oddly enough, I could only remember
the first two lines & I never
looked at the rest. HA!

Well, in the past I wasn't called "King of Drek and Drivel" or just "King o fdrek" for nothing.
It was all because of my haiku.
Sis is better with stuff like that than I.
I do free form and loose rhymes.
Defibately couplets are out.
Of course, a LOooooong time ago when I first went online, I wrote my odd babblings in Shakespearean English.
Took alot of effort, but was worth it at the time.
Darned if I can do it now.
It's definately a different mindset, and I have quite a few years between then and now.
(Wear and tear on the mind.)

I'm glad you like it.
I could think of a few
people who WOULDN'T.
The first two line had
started differently, but
I didn't like them
(of course), so I
changed them. Not that
you'd be able to tell.

Your brother writes interesting stuff, and his artwork isn't bad either, you write in the same way he does it seems. Somewhat dark and foreboding. It is good.

Do you guys open the blinds at all and get any light in your place. LOL!

I've just started but I don't write the first thing that comes to mind, especially if I'm going to post it! LOL.

I think I'd be in big trouble. ;)

Sis was the one who started writing poetry first.
My forays into poetry started due to close personal tragedy.
And I somewhat refused to write the first stuff down.
And then it bothered me too much.
Stuck in my head like an annoying song.
So I had no choice.

I'm more comfortable writing short stories.
Yeah, we get some light, but sis sunburns too quickly.
And I end up a redhead under sunlight.
I prefer to keep my almost raven locks. (Closer to deep chestnut actually)

*wry grin*

I usually write the first thing
that comes to mind, but sometimes
I actually have to THINK. How horrible!

*bloodcurdling scream heard in background*

The first real poem I wrote, I wrote
straight through (I know for sure 'cause
I used pen). It's called "Sorrow" &
with good reason. I wrote it at school
after a loss & I had to go back to school
after christmas break. Like I said, my poetry
wasn't accepted by afore mentioned school.

Well, it is a bit of a bad thing that I spend half the year with red hair.
I probably could write a poem or short story about it.
But at the moment the brain is in shutdown mode.
But, I honestly do prefer to keep my hair at it's current dark shade.

I certainly believe that tragedy does bring out the poetry and dark writing in a person if it's there. Deep thought and all.

We all eventually experience feelings of loss unless one is completely heartless. So I understand about where your 'darkside' comes from. I try to stick to the bright side of things, always looking for that light!

I see that light in some of Darksheare's posts, the glimpses of humor. LOL.

It's good to know it's there amongst the rest.

Well, 'Unforeseen Ending' and 'Maybe' were both written from the same point of view, but with different outlooks.
One is from a complete lack of hope, no chance of redemption.
The other is where there is a chance, albeit unseen.

Well, there's Irish in there, and some German.
One Frenchy that we know of, and a few English.
(Sis gets her pale skin tone from the grotty English. She's also paid more attention to family history than I.)

But I have, sometimes, stripes in my hair that are armor sand in color.
I also have a few bright crimso hairs, gunmetal grey, and raven black.
So my hair color is at best a conglomeration of odd.
But if I stay in the sun too often, it turns red.
All of it.
And with teh goatee, I look kinda funny with crimson locks.
(I admit to being vain.)

a flight of fancy in a child's eye
to see a brief glimpse of days gone by
she stood alone on the gulf of forever
black winged and robed the tears fell
a memory of pain and things that can never be
to sit back and count all the days gone by

'All the days gone by'

That's the problem with me, I can't
write anything but darkness or oddities.
I've tried to write lighter things, but
they always sound absolutely HORRIBLE.
I don't really know why I can't write happiness...
If I try, it always takes a dark turn.
It seems to be what I'm best at.
Thus my brother relates me to E.A. Poe.
However, I don't think my work is as dark as his...

Well, there's Irish in there, and some German.

I thought maybe so only because of the issues of dark hair turning red.

My mother's side is Irish, my father's side German and we all have dark hair that was more red when first born then turned very dark and can still turn red in too much sunlight. lol.

I have no idea where it comes from or why, but I thought I'd ask.

LOL. Maybe it's good and you just think it's not. Or perhaps you were meant to write the darker side of things.

I sure bentfeather would advise to write what you are comfortable with, what comes naturally to you.
