~The Dragon Flies Lair~
Poets | August 27, 2003 | bentfeather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guides
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Oh,unexpected guest
your presence without flesh
steals the lies
you're the sanctuary of love
and desire of night companion...

As dawn arrives
My eyes struggle to open

Thoughts of you flood my mind
And I lay here

Longing to return to sleep
Dreaming only of you

One Year

WHEN I WAS 17 I WORRIED ABOUT:
learning enough to pass final exams
would I have enough gas for my car
friends going their own way after graduation
having a date on Friday night
losing my girlfriend

WHEN I WAS 18 I WORRIED ABOUT:
learning enough to survive a war, not pass an exam
having enough ammunition for my rifle, rather than gas for my car
my friends being killed, rather than going their own ways
being point man on a Friday night ambush, rather than a date
losing my life, rather than my girlfriend

Growing up and serving during the Viet Nam era I can relate. I was lucky and served stateside. But I would have served in Nam, the Gulf, where ever my Nation called.

God Bless our Troops and our Leaders. Give us Your Guidance
and Blessing. Only through You will we triumph over evil.

Amen

SAC had a way of making things scary but not like getting shot at. But I would have then and still would today, serve with my fellow Americans on the front line anywhere in this world. I feel that our current conflict has much more public support than Viet Nam did, especially late in the War. But as you said, Soldiers go where they are told to and serve to the best of their ability.

"FOURTH DIVISION MOTHERS"

Fourth Division mothers
lift your hands in pride,
While I attempt to tell the story
Of your gallant sons who died.

They stormed those famous beaches
In the June of '44
And thousands of those there with us that day
Aren't with us anymore.

The Cherbourg port was intact
The War Department said
So we paved the road to history
with Fourth Division dead.

The Panzers came to meet us
In the daily counter-attacks,
With a blistering concentration
We proudly drove them back.

We broke their line in Normandy
And astounded half the nation,
By blitzing through to Paris
To perform the liberation.

The depleted German Army
We threw to quite a loss,
They came to respect our division
The men of the terrible green cross.

We drove them back thru the Ardennes forest
And ripped a hole in the Seigfried Line,
Although we drew out to consolidate
Before heading for the Rhine.

And again we drove into Germany
Determined not to stop,
And that is where you will find us now,
Fighting around the clock.

Mothers of the Fourth Division
Your sons will march with us again
When we parade down Unter Der Linden

And Old Glory Flies over Berlin.

For all Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines serving America in her time of need.

Thanks
A soldier walks a lonely post across the shifting sand,
and keeps an eye on troublespots where evil's known to lie.
Damn tough duty, every day, and trouble always close to hand,
A soldier does the toughest stuff, yet keeps a smile wry.

Duty is the hardest boss for it comes from within the soul,
and a soldier knows what’s asked of him, and so he truly tries.
The enemy knows all to well that our soldiers track evil to its hole,
and will pry it out and take it out, remembering 9/11 cries.

America, America, so proud of all a soldier does for her each day ,
and of the debt that is incurred for each who stand for country and for flag.
Thank you one and thank you all for serving in your heroes way,
in you echoes all our past and all the courage of soldiers past, a spirit that never lags.

I saw it while researching the Hurtgen Forest after reading your thread today and was torn between where to post it, here at bentfeather's place or at the Foxhole.

I chose here.

So I've done two today, one original by me LOL! (free flowing as I think feather calls it - doesn't rhyme) and one written by a soldier who just happened to serve in WWII and was wounded in the Hurtgen Forest Battle.

I figured I ran across it today of all days so it was supposed to be here, maybe for him. :)

That's all for me today over here though, poetry is tough work, writing it and/or formating other's work. ;)
