Assuming they're falling at a terminal velocity of 120mph, one could time the fall from the top of the cavern to the waterLOL! To heck with TIMING it, that's fall's gotta HURT!

Somebody said that the whole falling sequence, if at terminal velocity, went further than 15 miles judging by time passed.
I haven't done the math myself, and don't care to try my hand at it at the moment, but I really like the sequence and have only a secondary background interest in the distance traveled.
It is quite an impressive sequence.
Hopefully, the Samwise versus Gollum and then Shelob sequence will be just as pumped.
If they kept it at all due to time constraints.
