The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I like all white lights. They seem reserved and yet still welcoming.

And our neighbors go rather all-out with colored lights and plastic. Not quite Griswalds, but a little tacky.

Would it be good for you two to do the Texmoot on Saturday??

Saturday works all right for us! What do you say, Wn?

I've forgotten that, thanks for mentioning it.
But Footfall is one of my favorite Niven books, maybe this is a good time to get the thing out and read it again.
I'm going to go look and see if I can find it.

I don't even wanna HEAR about 70 degree temps, especially at night!

Current temp...about 8 degrees. *sigh*

I like all white lights too. They remind of a lot of bars I have been to in the Bahamas Out Islands, where Christmas lights are featured all year usually.

Griswolds were on last night. I liked the part where the squirrel jumps out of the Christmas tree.

Everyone does white lights.....boring!

White lights sparkling on snow-covered houses... seems almost Dickensian to me.

You can always flame jonalvy44. He's been irritating on the "...is this your king" thread.

I did get the mixed color lights instead of the all white lights.

I'm glad to hear that! But, you are still a traitor for going with lights!

Good Evening All; a few responses in order, then try to play a quick round of catch up.

Sam: that was good shooting, no doubt that an atl-atl will take a deer, they took lots bigger stuff when that was as high-tech as they had.

G'nad; sounds like you're doing real good; one arrow, and three shots for 3 in the freezer. Mighty fine shooting.

2jedismom; excellent lesson for the young man, knife work is an important skill, especially for a young jedi. Good job on the bear.

Overtaxed, since this is your first winter here, you may not know about the Kansas City tradition of waiting until the snow fall starts then everyone in town immediately drives to the grocery store to buy enough supplies to last all winter. Then repeat the process at the beginning of the next snowfall. Regular as clockwork it is.

Rosie, WN needs a good solid dose of snow...

It's about 25 degrees here. I had a space heater on at work until it blew out my power strip... sigh...

Heh. "Back home" there's a run on the stores as soon as anyone mentions the "S" word. I was suprised there was still bread, milk, and eggs on the shelves.

Luckily it's always warm where I work now. The place I worked before...I was in a room with two guys who were ALWAYS hot. So I'd be sitting there with my teeth chattering, and they'd OPEN THE WINDOWS! Grr! And they told us we weren't allowed to use space heaters, not that I had one anyway.

But it's comfy at the college during the winter. It was broiling during the summer, but at least it's nice in the winter!

Rosie; cat story here; back in the first age, when LSA and I were in grad school, we had a cat, named Smokey Bear. When he had decided it was time to go bed, he lay on our papers and/or books till we gave up and hit the hay. He was a persistent little son-of-gun.

Heh...they're smarter than a lot of people give 'em credit for!

Mine have given up on trying to give me hints about bedtime, though. They just all go to bed at ten or so, whether I'm there or not. I'll come into the bedroom and they'll all be sacked out, Fiona under the covers, of course. She doesn't understand why anyone would sleep on TOP of a comfortable blanket. Stupid kitties...
