I laughed when you said that about character building! One of the running jokes (with serious intent) in our family is that we do hard things because they 'build character.' My husband got a little carried away with it and teased them a lot about it, and the kids got a kick out of all the things that were included under the 'character building' umbrella, but they did seem to end up with that 'character' we teased about!
