Should I move to TX (Instead of AZ??)
Posted on 05/11/2003 3:54:40 PM PDT by 1stFreedom
I'm thinking about packing up from NY and moving out to Texas. But before I consider moving out there, I want to make sure I'm not moving to another Kalifornia or New York.
What is the political climate like? Is it conservative? Republican?
What are the philosophical undertones of the population? Conservative? Liberal?
How about the faith of the population? Is there a large Catholic [faituful] population?
How are the gun laws? Open carry?
Income tax? Corporate Tax?
Is the State homeschool friendly?
How organized are Freepers out there?
What is the best place to find employment for IT workers?
What is the best place to move to avoid allergies?
Is the state moving towards the left?
Is it as dry as Arizona?

I'm thinking of moving to Texas, but first - a question: do they have a ball club that's ever won the World Series? Who the hell cares? When you have braggin' rights to Nolan Ryan, nothing can beat that.

Here is a pad currently listed for $313,900, with about 2400 square feet in Prescott. It looks good to me.

Your

For the Yankees, of course.

However as soon as they get here, they try to get on the local city and county boards and recreate the nightmare they came from. Aint that the truth!! I moved out of my native state of FL after living there for 59 years because of that very thing. Now I'm seeing the same thing happening on a smaller scale here in north GA. I don't think there's any place left that those folks can't find.
Basically, they just screw up the area that the locals have been happy with for the last 300 years.
Well my folks had only been in FL for about 160 years, but we were pretty well satisfied with it before the people from up north came down to tell us how backward and miserable we were. They ought to be happy with FL now, it's become NJ with palm trees. I won't even go back now to visit my few remaining relatives down there.

Oh - and Ryan never won the Cy Young Award (Clemens has 6 times).

Yeah, I wasn't going to say anything, but I do have unpleasant memories sitting in the old Arlington Stadium seeing the Ranger scoreboard display a temperature in the 90's at 10pm. Or camping in New Braunsfels in August and not being able to sleep from the lingering heat at midnight.
Never had that problem in PA...

If we could move the PA spring/summer/Fall weather to Texas - well, it would be paradise...... lol
I am still amazed in August when we need a light jacket in the evening......lol......

No Stay away! Too many of you ferners coming down anyway.
No more newyawkers or californicators. You come to Arizona bitching about newyawk or californikate and the first friggin thing you do is bring wholesale liberalism with you which is what you said you wanted to escape.
NO FRIGGIN THANKS. Stay away. No vacancies. Full House. Beatings on the half hour!

You think Clemens will be selected to the Hall of Fame his first year of eligibility? You think he'll last 27 years and play over a time period of 4 decades? Will he last until he's 46? Will he ever be the all-time strikeout leader? Nolan Ryan started 773 games (that's 45 behind Cy Young). When Clemens retires, will he be 1st among active pitchers in wins, losses, ERA, starts, complete games (222), shutouts, innings, walks and strikeouts? Nolan was. Will Clemens surpass Nolan's 7 no-hitters? (That's 3 more than Koufax). Ryan allowed one-or-fewer hits in a complete game 19 times, another record. And he lost 5 no-hitters in the 9th inning.
Clements who?

Okay, I do remember when it got to 223 deg. people were making T-shirts. :) I remember one summer when it was 114 every day for a month, at least it seemed that way. I do remember that getting over 110 was common, or maybe it was El Nino.

Here is the epicenter of it all. I live in the middle of the pic, next to the canyon. Laguna Beach is to the left. I hate to leave home sometimes to go to work.

Woah, LOL! you must be confusing us with HELL...of course many do misrepresent us that way...LOL! The highest temp in Phoenix was 122 degrees in July of 1990...I know because I was flying in from Michigan that day and we could not land in Phoenix until the temp reached below 120 because there were no flight guidlines to land in that temp..It was hot and yes, I got the T-shirt!
