New York If one off-hand remark got The Dixie Chicks international response, imagine the buzz that will come after Friday's one-hour exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer. Natalie Maines, Emily Erwin and Martie Seidel will be the sole guests on a special edition of "Primetime," on ABC Friday night.
Meanwhile, despite the supposed outcry, people are snapping up Dixie Chick concert tickets. Their agent, Rob Light, tells Billboard that despite some backlash at radio and retail after that "we're embarrassed he's from Texas" comment about President Bush, the Dixie Chicks are flying high. Light says that of 59 shows, only six have seats left, and those are all 85-90% sold-out.
The Chicks' tour kicks off May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina, and concludes August 4 in Nashville.

Saw the previews. Hey, the Maines ninny managed to dab the corner of her eye, ostensibly to wipe away a tear. Made me sick!

I wonder if Sawyer will ask in reference to the 'rumor' out there.. the group is splitting up after the tour?

So to say that people are snapping up tickets is a blatent lie - most of the tickets were already sold. That's the whole point.

OK, four or five of us immediately discerned the discrepancy between the "snapping up" quantification, which reflect recents sales, and the "only six have seats left, and those are all 85-90% sold-out" which reflects total sales. My guess is many others here also caught it but refrained from responding after noting others had already done so. Yet it never seemed to occur to the moron from Billboard.

They will not find me watching. Maybe it is 'live' and not taped. Hopefully, they will stick their foot in it again.
This goof will be duly reported on FR, WND, FOX , etc.
Yuck, Yuck!

Okay, what's with ABC? First this Diane Sawyer thing with the Blixie Chicks, then the ABC Radio report I heard today fawning over the Blixie's ticket sales for their almost sold out concerts. I'm not kidding you. The radio report went on for a couple of minutes about how well the Blixies were doing (though I did notice Lipton was not mentioned). Are ABC and the Blixie's record label owned by the same company or something?

Interesting too that they don't have a single song on the Billboard top 100. There are plenty of other country singers there including Randy Travis, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry, Tim McGraw, Chris Cagle, and others.... makes you wonder how many of their own album they had to buy to keep their Album on the Billboard #1.

You're right. This is a public relations nightmare for Sony Music. They probably pulled strings to get a public forum for Maines to discuss the matter. Unfortunately, it won't work. Maines has soured a lot of patriotic Americans who won't soon forget.

Didn't they sue Sony? I'm surprised Sony would feel so great towards them.

I do think going and just booing them would help. I think you would find plenty of others in the audience, especially in Salt Lake, who would join in. At least you would get your money's worth.

makes you wonder how many of their own album they had to buy to keep their Album on the Billboard #1. NASHVILLE, TN Friday 3.28.2003 /netmusiccountdown.com/ According to their music sales on 3.28...."until last week they were averaging sales of the album HOME around 150,000 or more units per week. The boycott kicked in dropping sales of HOME by a whopping 42 % (down from 124,000 to 72,000 units sold). That means, in effect, some 52,000 record buyers, that might have visited record stores or sites to pick up a Chicks CD, stayed at home decreasing any potential collateral sales of other artists' product."
More stats to make one wonder.

Here's a question for all you concert goers. If the chicks were booed off the stage would the audience then be entitled to a refund? What if the first few concerts end extremely early and they decide to cancel the rest, could the people who bought tickets for later concerts get a refund?
I would like to see the Dixie Chicks actually have to suffer financially for their Anti-American, anti Bush rant. Maybe just a constant booing would be enough to make these "brave, independent" women turn tail and run.
