Redford plays an idiot general. At the end of the movie he's suppose to run the US flag up the pole upside down as a sign of distress but he's so stupid he runs it up the pole correctly, gets shot, and thankfully dies.

Gotta say I hated it. Redford's sanctimony makes me gag.

Didn't see the movies, be I saw trailers, read reviews, and they made me want to puke. Noble, misunderstood general (redford) takes on eveil corrupt officer running a prison, stages revolt on behalf of misunderstood prisoners, fight for our constitutional rights or some such.
Granted, this may be an inaccurate summary. If in fact Reford revolted because the guards were slack in enforcing discipline among the Schiesse bird prisoners, I might see it.

It seemed utterly preposterous to me.
Robert Redford suffered from "Kevin Costner" syndrome in this movie. Kevin Costner always puts himself in these epic hero roles, but he's such a nancy boy. Same goes for Robert Redford. These are your liberal action heros folks!

I didn't like it. Maybe it is because I spent over 5 years working as an Army Correctional Officer at the "REAL" Last Castle at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Quite frankly, I am suprised Robert Redford would accept a movie role in this "B" movie. They just recycled old prison movie plots and added the army. To accept this movie you have to believe that all those killers, rapists and drug dealers are really just soldiers at heart who need a leader. Add in the required excessively brutal guards, the stereotypical warden, and enough procedure and technical screw ups that even a novice C/O would not commit and they you have it. Throw in some explosions and you have got yourself one hollywood movie. I would be willing to send a picture of the "Last Castle" but I do not know how to add pictures to this reply.

I was working the ramp at John Tune airport which is right behind the old prison when they filmed it. They flew the choppers in to fuel them and would give us a ride every now and then. They tried to buy the Huey at the mechanic's school I was attending but we wouldn't let it go (we used to secretly fly the thing in the field behind the school).

any comments?
Yea, Robert Redford sucks, and so did this movie.
totally lame for some leftwing wannabe war hero, (Redford) leading a group of human garbage to think they're soldiers is a gross insult to the real military.

Nothing clever or original in the story line of this movie. The lame plot devices anoyed me but they were mostly at the end.
I love the movies and can't quit just because Hollywood is populated by bleeding hearts. Redford and Gandolfini are always worth watching.
This movie was well acted, directed and filmed. Worth a look.

I am starting to feel like I am defiantly a minority here!

I thought he ran the flag up correctly on purpose, just to further demonstrate Gandolfini's paranoia. I also gathered that he knew all long he would be killed. As I said before, I'm no Redford fan, but looking beyond the obvious prison angle, I saw a a great storyline about standing up to oppression. So what if the story was warmed-over, so is every sports movie, and
Rudy and
Major League still get me every time.
