I had a similar interest in what Freepers wrote on this topic, but with a slight twist. I was curious how many were calling for the execution or other extreme measure for Ricci, the man suspected by many of being involved in this abduction, who died in prison. One of the reasons that I oppose the death penalty is because people can be wrongly convicted by an imperfect judicial system run by mortals. It was in this regard that I was interested in seeing who and how many would jump to the conclusion of guilt and scream for a lynching. To my suprise, I did not find any posts that blatantly decried Ricci as guilty, nor any that called for his execution.

From my perspective there were two sets of speculations offered before any details were known.

Now that more details are becomming available one group appears to be correct and the other incorrect.

The fact remains that both positions were speculative which makes any attempt to exact servitutde from those who guessed incorrectly appear rather hypocritical.

From my perspective both groups were premature.

Ricci was never charged. He was in prison for parole violation.

Interesting angle. I feel badly that Ricci didn't live to see his vindication. I suspected him back then, but I didn't know for sure.

Go back and read over all of the various posts on those threads, and then start pinging people if you wish.

I, for one, have got nothing to apologize for -- Everything I posted about this subject was based on legitimate questions related to discrepancies in media reports, eyewtiness accounts, etc. Hopefully these questions will all be answered during the course of this criminal case.

And I still say that Smart guy is a flaming @sshole for using the occasion of his daughter's safe recovery to launch an idiotic rant against a decent U.S. Congressman.

The fact is that many Freepers assumed that she was some sort of shiftless slut based on mere speculation. It is entirely appropriate, when it comes to questioning the honor of a young woman, to offer an opportunity, for those neglently mistaken about that young woman's honor, to eat some humble pie.

If someone spread a wicked rumor about my daughter and that rumor was proven false, I would give you the opportunity to recant before I horse whipped that individual. It is a matter of honor.
