NASHVILLE, Tennessee - The Dixie Chicks (news - web sites)' Natalie Maines has apologized to President George W. Bush (news - web sites) for am anti-war comment insult she made at a London concert.
"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful," the singer said Friday in a statement. "I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect."
Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Angry phone calls flooded a Nashville radio station on Thursday, some calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music. Two Dallas stations stopped playing the group's music because of Maines' comments.
The Dixie Chicks are touring Europe where Maines said Friday they are "witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war."
Maines said she is a mother and wants to see "every possible alternative exhausted" before lives are lost.
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide."

Personally I think her husband gave her a talkin' to. On another thread someone mentioned that he actually called into a radio station(in Dallas?) and said that he was ticked at her statement, didn't know what had gotten into her, and he was really going to here it when he went into work at the store!

To paraphrase my morning talk-jock friend, this is a Stage Three Bowel Movement Panic Repsonse.
It doesn't cut it.
The Dixie Chicks Apology Tour... a non-starter.

The George Clooneys and Sheryl Crows and Martin Sheens of the world can get away with their "drive-by" (O'Reilly's term) attacks on the president, because their audience for the most part is either in "agreeance" with them or is apathetic. Ms. Maines however ran her mouth and insulted a good part of her core audience, and more importantly, the radio station DJs that play their music. Opening the concert with a statement was cheap and gratuitous, playing to her probably anti-Bush audience in the UK, and she learned that hard way that words mean things.

they are screwed...big time...
their tour will start just when american troops have liberated iraq, bush has 70%+ approval ratings..and in all places, they will start their tour in South Carolina - a state with more military personel, veterans as % of population - and extremely pro-bush state...
they can kiss their tour tickets goodbye...i am just wondering if there will be any protests against them when they tour the US...
the only way they can redeem themselves is to ask for the good grace from gwb - gwb will be the only one let them off the hook - imagine gwb say, the comments are ok with him and he and laura are the chicks' fans...but will gwb do that...hahaha..

Unfortunately, I believe I read recently that their US tour sites were sold out - maybe the ticketholders will show up just to boo them off the stage? If there is a G-d in heaven ...

ISSUED A STATEMENT?? I WANT TO HEAR HER SAY IT ON STAGE. AND SHE NEEDS TO REPEAT IT CONSTANTLY. HER WORDS STUNG, AND THE PAIN WILL NOT GO AWAY QUICKLY.
There will be nobody around to hear it, on stage, this is one "celebrity?" we can choke off, she sings to the wrong group to be spouting off at. Most of the folks that buy her music totally love MR. BUSH! They will not buy tickets to concerts anymore, nor the CDs. You blew it missey, and for the rest of your so-called-band. See ya. (Not meant at you Recovering Democrat, to the DCs)

They were smart enough to sell-out their concert dates before she opened her big mouth. I'd still love them to perform to empty seats.

And may she suffer greatly for it, while learning a HARD lesson.

What was the point of her comment? I hate it when people are so fake. Either she meant it or she's a suck up.

"
After the ceremony, Maines and Pasdar ended up in a swimming pool - and then in bed. "He stayed all night,"says Maines. "But we didn't do anything. Except a lot of kissing. I knew I loved him from the first night."You know, even if I believed this, I still wouldn't be interested.
Ms. Pasdar - I am not interested in your sex life or your political views. I used to be interested in your music but you should have thought before you insulted America in front of the world.

I am ashamed that they use the name Dixie, I am living in Dixie and I don't want their type hanging around here. They sound more like yankees, frankos or krauts.

"The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album 'Home' on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina."LOL, it is poetic justice that they are starting their tour here. I spoke with several people that already purchased tickets and are extremely angry. I guess I'll plan to be outside of the arena on May 1st. Any sign suggestions would be welcome. I'm not as creative as some of our famous FReepers. Anyone care to join me?

You gotta be shi**in' me?? Are you serious? WTH?
It's just too bad that these mindless "rockers" in country clothing got caught. Now, they're getting pummeled by Americans who are pissed...and so they apologize? Too late...thats the kind of staement that does not get cleaned in the washing machine.
Hey Ditsie Chix..I was country when country was'nt cool..you on the other hand, never were. Might as well call the Pope a satanic priest while in Italy..that'll go over just as good.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Love it.
Someone needs to buy a billboard sign, somewhere in Texas that reads: Hey Dixie Tricks, don't bother coming back!
I bet we could raise a couple of thousand bucks...and have a sign up within days...can you imagine the look on their faces when they open up USA today and see that sign up in Teaxs, while they are still in Germany???
