A warblogger mentioned this article, and I thought freepers would enjoy it. I don't remember which blog had it, but I'll give credit later if I run into the mention at a later time.

I love the 4th stanza.......esp. this line:
"Then conquer we must, for our cause is just, And this be our motto--"In God is our trust."
Thanks for posting this.

I remember reading it for the first time in Reader's Digest 12 years ago. It sure brings back memories.

Interesting post.
I have never have been able to absorb the other parts of Key's work. I never heard the other stanzas of the SSB sung, or even really adequately acknowledged.
It seems to me that most Americans have no idea that the SSB has more to it than what they hear at baseball games!
I know that those other stanzas are there, but they are never really mentioned in school or anywhere else in my experience!
You have me thinking though.
I once saw Asimov speak at a College Campus in my City some 25 years ago!
I have indeed read a number of his books.
Actually, I have read a lot of his books!
The most popular ones, naturally.
He had some interesting views.
I have some insights of my own.

God Bless Isaac Asimov.
By virtue of his excellent non-fiction books on chemistry and physics, I was given a clear understanding of these subjects that the "military" texts in OCS could not impart.
Good post "ladyDoc" and a nostalgic reunion with an "Old Teacher".
