BB King was just asked about political comments during the war and he said "I think that there are going to be alot of things said tonight that I don't agree with."

Way to go B.B!

Faith was a little off key tonight and her voice was a little rougher than usual. She looks pretty good for a mother many times over.

It seems like S & G would have sung "Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme" (I think that is the name) instead of Sounds of Silence. "Parsley..." is an antiwar song as I recall. I mean, I am surprised they passed up the opportunity to do a war protest song. Actually, what i thought of as they performed was how they are currently arguing (their agents and lawyers are, I guess) over what % of the cut will Garfunkel get when they launch a reunion tour. Simon wants the lion's share. I guess Garfunkel was the original Oates or Dunn (as in Hall and Brooks.)

Did anybody else think the Dixie Chicks did a pretty good job with a Stevie Nicks song tonight?

She was NOT off key. That is a very difficult song and she was perfect. Boy, FR is a tough crowd!

Oh yes, the Brixton riots of 1981... another great moment in British history: a couple of cops tried to help a black youth who had been stabbed. In the end about 300 police were injured. There were no guns used, though, bricks and Molotov cocktails ruled the day. The poor oppressed peoples...

There is this comment I found from the moderator on the Sheryl Crow blogsite that someone posted to this thread. Basically, the dissent of her antiBush/antiAmericanWar statements will continue to be censored. This was the same party line from the Jessica Lange fansites. It's okay for the celebs to spout political rhetoric but fans, former fans, and others are not permitted to question those statements, only support them.

Before or after Sheryl is on TV during the Grammy Awards, some of those people will be back. You know them, they have flames and hate because they misunderstand or are too narrow minded to want to understand some of the statements Sheryl has made, or remember the message t-shirts she's worn. They might also forget that questioning your government is a fundamental right of any citizen, and that question or lack of support for a policy or action is against that government.

I would ask you, as a favor, please, to leave the really bad posts alone. I will deal with them. Some of the people who caused trouble before might come back for more and find their log-in name no longer exists. These people want to start problems, want to see the forum disrupted, and generally come in for one post or for one day, and then vanish. They think Sheryl will see what has been written here and it will affect her somehow.

That's different, of course, than someone who comes in and disagrees with what Sheryl has said or done, or what the US, the UN, or another country has said or done, or what is going on in the world in general. If they stick within the guidelines, I'll usually leave it up. If you have the patience and want to try to educate them and can stay within the guidelines, go for it. Unfortunately, I've had a few users make it impossible for a thread to stay up, and if you started a thread that turned sour, sorry, it happens sometimes.

If you have to comment on the flaming hatred threads, and I wish you wouldn't, reply with facts only. Don't speculate and don't call names.

It's been very difficult to get the flames and hatred off this site. If you spot something that doesn't meet the guidelines, especially if it's in one of the established threads, please let me know. I suspect I'll be very busy Sunday and Monday.

For our visitors, Sheryl has made a statement in December on her feelings, and you can read it here.

Thanks.

- Gregg.

I just saw it - it was excellent.

I love watching Yo-Yo Ma play - on this number, he played with joy and grace, and his face was lit up with the sheer, well, joy of it.

I like Vanessa Carlton, too. She's very talented, and I'm looking forward to seeing Michelle Branch. When does she come on? I have to watch Alias now. That and 24 are don't-misses for me. ;-)

I wasnt listening to Faiths number that carefully but I thought the orchestra was playing too soft, I would have liked for her to do 'When the Lights Go Down' instead..not much a country fan I am, but that is a good song

Landslide was my signature song when I was into the whole "accoustic" guitar thing. It's such a chick song.

I think CBS and the Grammy people laid down the law. Drudge said that CBS said they would turn off the microphones if it became political. And I noticed that Dustin Hoffman said that there were no sponsers bu that the Grammys tonight were "brought to you by the people of New York". If I had lost a family member I would have been screaming mad if it became a huge anti-war thing.

Also, I think that shows like this should provide equal time to the other side when these jerks get up and protest to an audience of zillions.

And speaking of the Dixie Chicks, did anybody else think their version of the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl was among the best ever? It brough a tear to my eye.

I once saw Marvin Gaye sing the SSB before a boxing match. He was amazing.

I thought Sounds of Silence WAS a war song. At the time, there was the notion of the Silent Generation (who were sort of like the Soccer Moms of their day, only they elected a Republican president - Richard Nixon).

The Sounds of Silence is about what happens when people remain quiet in the face of the "neon gods", the imagery of which suggests the gods of war.

You can tell that Vanessa Carlton is young. She was off whereas Norah Jones was PERFECT, didn't hit one bad note. Beautifully sung with a terrific arrangement.

If these musicians are all so smart, why do they get ripped off by their money managers and sign such lousy contracts?
