In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
 Practice makes perfect.....post on....

  supercilious \soo-per-SIH-lee-uss\ (adjective):

 Example sentence:
Brooke's snooty remarks and consistently supercilious attitude alienated virtually all of her colleagues.

Did you know?
Arrogant and disdainful types tend to raise an eyebrow at anything they consider beneath them. The original supercilious crowd must have shown that raised-eyebrow look often, because the adjective "supercilious" derives from "supercilium," Latin for "eyebrow." (We plucked our adjective and its meaning from the Latin adjective "superciliosus.") The term has been used in English to describe the censoriously overbearing since the late 1500s, when playwright Ben Jonson used it thus: "There are, no doubt, a supercilious race in the world who will esteeme all office, done you in this kind, an injurie."

We need to elect a slap-stick comedian to congress to represent the
supercilioUS.

When I initially signed up for FR, I totally mis-clicked, and ended up with the LDS23. I've been pondering a name change, and happened to be watching Dr. Strangelove a while back (one of my all-time favorite movies).

    One more thing -
My apologies - I've been busy with whatnot, and haven't had the chance to stop by here more often.
Hope you all have been well.

Sorry, I had to go take a math placement test. I already have my freaking B.A., but to take this one lousy class I want, I needed ro prove my proficiency, again. Thanks for opening up.

It's a pretty funny movie - I'd highly recommend it. I don't want to spoil the show, so I'll only relate a part:
It's basically a take-off on the "Fail-Safe" concept, where nuke bombers go too far during "manoevers". A rogue colonel (Sterling Hayden), has the recall password in his head, but won't give it out.
Peter Sellers, in one of three roles, notices the colonel keeps rambling about "Purity of Essence" and "Peace On Earth", and figures out the recall code -
But does he do it in time to prevent doomsday?
Only Dr. Strangelove has the solution.

It's a pretty funny movie That's putting it mildly. A classic! "Dr. Strangelove; or, How I Stopped Worrying And Learned To Love The Bomb." 1964. Stanley Kubrick.
